yeah, I saw that construction too. As u said, hopefully it's the five star hotel that u mentioned. But my father said it is going to be a waterfront project, hopefully that is a false statement.

Finally, Dataran Pahlawan is going to be completed

Hadir sama ialah Setiausaha Kerajaan Negeri, Datuk Wira Ismail Saleh; Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Perumahan, Kerajaan Tempatan, Alam Sekitar dan Pengangkutan negeri, Datuk Wira Poh Ah Tiam, Pengerusi Lianbang Ventures Sdn Bhd, Datuk Shuib Lazim, Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Lianbang Ventures Sdn Bhd, Datuk Erc Tan, Pengurus Besar Magnificient Diagrath Sdn Bhd, (Carrefour Malaysia), Shafie Shamsudin, Pengurus Besar Golden Arches Restoran Sdn Bhd (McDonald’s), Azmir Jaafar dan Ketua Pegawai Operasi Kumpulan Melaka Bhd, Zainal Abu.

I think this is crazy, another hypermarkets planned in Malacca by 2007. MyDin Hypermarket has plan to set up a store in malacca. Malacca has too many hypermarket. The current hypermarkets in malacca are Bintang Hyperm, Tesco, upcoming Giant Hyperm and Carrefour. If the news of Makro opening this year is true, then malacca will have 5 hyperm in total. If MYdin open another 1, then we will have 6 hypermarkets by 2007 in Malacca.
I doubt malacca will have huge market.

Mydin plans four more hypermarkets

August 19 2006

MALAYSIAN hypermarket operator, Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd, plans to invest RM380 million in 2006 and 2007 to open four hypermarkets.

These openings will bring the total number of Mydin outlets including emporiums, supermarkets and hypermarkets to a total of 28 from 23 currently.

Also in the pipeline is the establishment of between 30 and 40 Mymart convenience stores costing RM500,000 each in 2007 and 2008. It will further expand Mymart by franchising it at a later stage.

The 49-year old group, wholly-owned by the Mydin family, is taking advantage of Malaysia's economy that is forecast to grow by 6 per cent this year, to expand its business.

Managing director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin said that on the cards is the possibility of the company going for listing.

"To list we have to have a few hypermarkets opened. Our listing plan is after we have reached that comfortable level of outlets," Ameer told reporters following the launch of its first wholesale hypermarket in USJ, Subang, Selangor.

Ameer, who was a merchant banker previously, pointed out that there was no urgency to list the company as the business is a family-owned entity.

Mydin has identified Terengganu, Malacca, Kuantan and Kota Baru for its future Mydin wholesale hypermarket. He distinguished his outlet as one that does both wholesaling and retailing.

The outlet in Terengganu is scheduled for opening by the end of the year while the Malacca and Kuantan openings are slated for 2007. A date has yet to be set for the Kota Baru store.

A total of RM150 million was spent to open its first hypermaket in Subang and Ameer estimates investments into the Terengganu outlet, which is about half the size of the Subang store, to touch RM75 million.

This Subang store, with a total retail space of 280,000 sq ft, is expected to help boost Mydin's revenue by RM20 million each month.

In the last financial year ended March 31 2006, Mydin registered RM600 million in sales from its 23 outlets. In the financial year ending March 31 2007, the retailer expects revenue to surge to RM720 million in sales (not including the Terengganu outlet).

"We need to make RM19 million to RM20 million a month, because of the size and the cost involved. We expect a total of RM840 million in a year," he said.

The projected monthly sales from Terengganu is RM10 million a month.

Together, the two hypermarkets will increase Mydin's monthly revenue by 60 per cent.

On its proximity and competition with Giant hypermarket, which is right next door, Ameer described the competition as healthy.

"Our advantage is Mydin is owner operated and we are in the business as a family. (As such) decisions are made faster. We are the headquarters. It is a niche that we have," he said.

Yet another advantage Mydin has over the other main players in the industry which are all foreign controlled - Giant, Carrefour, Tesco and Makro - is that it sources 60 per cent to 70 per cent of its products from abroad on its own, without the help of a middle man.

This translates into cost savings which is passed on to the consumer.

"We are the buyers. If you buy correctly, you can sell at the right price," he said.

i don think the below news look good.

Malacca presses on with Bandar Hilir revolving tower project

MALACCA: The state is going ahead with plans to build a revolving tower within the buffer zone in Bandar Hilir.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the tower project costing RM15mil would be built opposite the tourist police station near the Studthuys.

"We are doing tests for piling work now. The project will begin once TNB, TM and Syarikat Air Melaka have shifted their underground pipes and cables," he told reporters after the state government meeting Thursday.

Mohd Ali said he had directed the three companies to complete their pipe and cable relocation within one month.

"The work to shift the pipes and cables has held back the project," he said, adding that the tower was expected to be completed in a year.

Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim has been invited to perform the groundbreaking ceremony on Oct 7.
