Recently I realise that the project is being developed by the same developer for the Klebang 8 condo.I was told that part of the hotel's interior is going to be based on Balinese styling.

CM: Malacca to build mini-monorail

MALACCA: The state government plans to build a mini-monorail similar to that on Sentosa Island in Singapore to help improve public transportation in the state, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said.

He invited private sector participation, saying that the state government would provide the land to the company to build the monorail.

The monorail would start at Melaka Sentral and connect to Semabok, Melaka Raya, Kota Laksamana and return to Melaka Sentral.

It would also cross the Malacca River before returning to Melaka Sentral, he said.

Mohd Ali said the state government was conducting a study, expected to take three months, to improve the public transportation system in the state.

He said this in his reply to Datuk Chong Tam On (BN – Bemban) during the question and answer session at the state assembly meeting yesterday.

Mohd Ali said the study would focus on transportation in Melaka Tengah and within a 5km radius of Melaka Sentral.

The study would include public buses and taxi services in the state, he said.

Mohd Ali also told Betty Chew (DAP – Kota Laksamana) that the construction of the monorail would not damage historical artefacts in the state.

“The presence of the monorail would add value to the Malacca River,” he said, adding that the project did not involve the tearing down of any museums or the A’ Famosa gate.

Another proposal was a cable car linking Bukit Senjuang to Pulau Melaka, Mohd Ali said, adding that he hoped the project would attract developers.

The land reclamation project along the coastline, stretching from Umbai, Telok Mas, Banda Hilir, Ujong Pasir, Tengkera, Limbongan and Klebang to Tanjung Kling, was carried out to increase state land.

Mohd Ali said the purpose of reclaiming land by 22 companies involving 181ha was to facilitate the provision of infrastructure, as well as promote residential and commercial development for local residents.

There are also plan to build erl from KLIA to Malacca. I would prefer if the government could build the coastal highway soonest possible. I believe there will be more development of hotels and condos or even shopping mall once the highway is built. Cant wait to see it turn to be something like penang gurney drive oneday.

At the Malacca State Assembly yesterday: An 'open Disneyland' to woo visitors to Malacca
17 Oct 2006
Jason Gerald John and Cynthia Lee

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MALACCA is set to turn the heart of the historic city into an "open Disneyland" to attract more tourists and ease traffic congestion.

For this purpose, the state government has given the green light for a mini monorail to be built, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam told the State Assembly yesterday.

He said the system would be similar to the mini monorail on Singapore’s Sentosa Island and it would operate within a five-kilometre radius from Dataran Pahlawan.

"The monorail, connecting Malacca Sentral in Jalan Panglima Awang to the Malacca river in Banda Hilir will provide an alternative mode of transportation for tourists and Malacca residents," he said in reply to Datuk Amid Nordin (BN-Telok Mas).

He gave an assurance that the project would not destroy historic sites and the heritage area.

In reply to a supplementary question by Betty Chew (DAP-Kota Laksamana), Ali said the issue of historical sites always cropped up when the government wanted to introduce something new.

"They say we are destroying the historical value of the city... but can we not bring in new development to make the city better and for the comfort of tourists and Malacca residents alike?"

He said he had consulted heritage experts like the Museums Department and also the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage.

Chew suggested that the state government was unfair to local and foreign investors by reclaiming land in the coastal areas of the Klebang beach here.

"These investors bought bungalows and condominiums in these areas because of the sea view," she said.

"Now that the view of the sea is blocked by the land reclamation projects, the value of these houses will drop."

The Chief Minister said not many investors would be affected as there were not many buildings on the project sites.

"I don’t think that there is anything wrong if we improve the view," he said.

"Such projects are so common in Singapore and people there don’t complain. Why do we complain here?"

A large shop lot development is on going at the big plot of land near MITC and next to the POS office. And another medium sized project will be coming up around early next year located in between and behind the land of the 3 petrol stations (BP,Shell and Petronas) in Air Keroh

Yeah.I think building the ERL first is more appropriate to attract more tourist. And I'm sure that in near future,Melaka will eventually turn into a coastal city

i have no idea. but as stated the built up area of the centre is only 200,000-300,000 sq ft. So I don't think it will be a shopping mall. I must be a 24 hours convenience shop like Bazaar Melaka.
