Premium Outlets to be opened in Malacca, Sepang

JOHOR BARU: Two new Premium Outlets will be set up in Malacca and Sepang soon, said Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen.

She said the Johor Premium Outlet (JPO) has far surpassed its expected tourist arrivals and the setting up of similar outlets in Malacca and Sepang would definitely boost tourist spending figures in the country.

"JPO has managed to attract more than one millions visitors since it opened in December, with 80% of them being domestic tourists," she said after attending a briefing session and visiting the outlet in Kulaijaya here Sunday.

She said the outlet in Johor itself would help boost tourist spending in the country.

"In 2011, 30% of tourism expenditure was chanelled to shopping and this is an increase of 3% from the previous year.

"We expect this number to continue to increase and we target expenditure for shopping to be up to 38% by the year 2020," she said.

The Premium Outlet offers high-end branded labels at discounted rates.

TNB Power Station in Pulau Melaka (exact location where the Wangkang ship was burnt on Chap Goh Meh) - as of 15 Feb 12

Location for the Malaysian Eye which is on the right side of the TNB Power Station in Pulau Melaka (apparently will be built after the TNB Power Station is built)

I wont be surprised if Melaka Premium Outlet is opened in Pulau Melaka. Having Arab City alone, Malaysian Eye, Wildlife Theater, cable Car will not be enough to attract human traffic there. If Arabs were to have vacations in Arab City, besides Middle Eastern gourmet, what they want is SHOPPING.

Other locations I can think of is at the Kota Laksamana reclaimed land or 1 Malaysia reclaimed land. Taman Herba mmm maybe not.

Just my 2 cents

I don't think Pulau Melaka will be the best place to built a factory outlet.

imagine how horrible the traffic will be.

besides, the entrance to the pulau is suck. before u enter u have to pass through the ugly gate and facade, not to mention the cheap shoplots and fishing pond around it. so no classy

i think the factory outlet is most likely going to be built in klebang, at least nearby the rumoured premium Parkson

Rumoured premium Parkson is supposed to be built at the soon-to-be reclaimed land behind Mahkota Hotel by Lions Group.

I think the state govt should ensure that the shopping haven is concentrated in one area or vicinity that is accessible easily by the tourists or fellow Malaccans. No doubt might cause traffic jam, but which part of Malacca town is not jam anyway during the peak period.

If you locate the MPO at Klebang, surely it's viable since they are now in the midst of constructing the Limbongan-Klebang highway. Then that place MIGHT be jammed too in future. But if I put myself in a tourist shoes, I would prefer everything within walking distance or nearby. Moreover with the tram implementation, it passes by Jalan Syed Abdul Aziz so it's very convenient since Mahkota Parade, Dataran Pahlawan, Hatten Square, future Parkson Premium Store and future Elements Mall are all within the hot triangle.

I really don't want to see the Melaka Premium Outlet to turn into another Melaka Mall where the location is not too strategic...albeit the old Jusco is still a crowd-puller where these two malls are just the opposite of each other.

I believe the entrance to the Pulau Melaka could be refurbished or revamped. Say goodbye to the fishing pond (though to the detriment of the angling enthusiasts) and then the potential of Pulau Melaka will be awoken from its overdue slumber.

So let's do some brainstorming...

Possible locations are
1. Dataran 1 Malaysia at Klebang
2. Reclaimed Kota Laksamana
3. Pulau Melaka
4. Krubong (possible as JPO is near the airport, Sepang also near airport, so Krubong near airport also...bring life to the airport?)
5. Taman Herba parking lot
6. MITC / Ayer Keroh
7. Beside Aeon Bandayara (that swamp area)

Anywhere else?

Will it possible for The Explorer to become MPO?

Leave the taman herba parking lot aloneInfact they should upgrade and pave itBut for sure for this project to be a success it needs a really big parking lotIt can never be in town for sure.
