Association: Toilets in Malacca stink!

MALACCA: The cleanliness level of restrooms at several state-managed premises and agencies is unsatisfactory, said the Malacca chapter of Quality Restroom Association of Malaysia (QRAM).
The association, which surveyed 12 such places, found that the toilets were smelly and covered with algae and stains.
This was due to infrequent maintenance by the appointed janitors, said its chairman Dr Johnson Tay Hong Eng.
Despite the state government allocating a budget to maintain such facilities, he said the level of cleanliness was still very low.
“The condition of restrooms at state government-managed premises should be exemplary and not in such a filthy state,” he said yesterday.
Dr Tay said the toilets were not serviced according to schedule while the janitors failed to focus on the importance of sanitary conditions.....

to make matter worse, they are paid. wtf!

10 urban transformation centres in the pipeline
Monday, March 26, 2012 - 12:19
by Reena Raj
IPOH: Ten Urban Transformation Centres (UTC) are in the pipeline.

4-march26
Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah (pic) said yesterday the federal government was discussing with state governments to develop these one-stop centres in the major cities.

He said this was part of the Urban Transformation Programme so that urbanites were not left out from the government’s vision.

“The cost of city living is higher than that in the rural areas. Urban residents also need government help sometimes,” he said.

Ahmad Husni said the urban transformation centres would be different from the recently-launched Rural Transformation Centres in Gopeng and Wakaf Che Yeh in Kelantan.

The centres would house government agencies, NGOs, banking and financial institutions, health and medical facilities, educational centres, safety and security services, welfare aid, entrepreneurship consultancy centres, and business space to cater to urbanites.

“There will be free tuition services and sports facilities for youths, and interpreters for the elderly who are not well-versed in Bahasa Malaysia,” he said after launching the new Chemor market here.

He said the centres, which were part of the National Blue Ocean Strategy, would be in state capitals and developed through public-private partnership.

Ahmad Husni also said the ministry was talking to several private institutions to collaborate and contribute financial assistance in the forming of the centres.

“The reward for cooperating in this community development project will be returned in the form of incentives, like government tax exemptions,” he said.

He said the Perak government had proposed the Ipoh Central Market building for one of the centres.

The first centre will be launched by the prime minister in Malacca in June.

A 36 story service apartment will replace the cinema. I would prefer if they restored the cinema with better amenities and a public square to cater the surrounding areas

Imagine a large open space with cafes and water features

well, i was thinking of something like KLPAC, but i guess both site are too small for it,

maybe something like the actor studio (is it??) on top of lot10, would be perfect!

That's a great idea. However, I'm quite skeptical on whether it will survive in Melaka as most of us are still not exposed to such venue

if performing art may not surive, then they could turn it into an event hall, just like this http://www.puls5.ch/ , where all sorts of events can be held in this indoor public space, along side with F&B and retail outlets, it is just like the centre court of a shopping mall, but adaptive reused from an old theatre at a prime location.
