It isn't over. We are still cleaning up oil daily in Louisiana. Plaquemines Parish cleaned up 15 barrels just last week. Don't be fooled by a quiet media. It isn't over.

You are absolutely right, it isn't over as far as the clean-up effort and lasting environmental effects. The permanent capping of the well is the first step in the long road ahead towards getting the Gulf Coast back to some type of normalcy.

From what I've read so far -- it doesn't seem like this one will be anywhere near as bad as the last one. They weren't actively drilling oil - so I believe that may help assure that there won't be weeks and weeks of uncapped oil spewing out of the floor of the Gulf. Its very terrible however that it looks like two people were killed. Very sad and tragic.

Keywords: Production platform in shallow waters. This was one of thousands of similar shallow water production platforms along the Gulf Coast and not among the billion dollar deep water drilling platforms that are less accessible to rescue and cleanup crews. But this terrible accident is a reminder that the business can be dangerous no matter how developed a field is.
