I never remove footwear when entering a public commercial establishment. Some places do request that, and I will comply only if it is in my interest to do so and enter the place.

There is no point in the whining of Varmaji’s friend. At this stature of life, he should have a chauffeur. I had thought that 9.30 pm (the time he returns back from club) is a safe time and cops would not start the checks. My friend in Ernakulam now says that life has become difficult as Cops are there with checking at any time.
I was in Trivandrum for four nights/days. I had come on Sat morning, but my wife had to cancel the ticket at the last minute as she needed to submit some papers for US Visa and postponed the trip to Sunday night. Her flight was scheduled to arrive at 11.20 pm at Trivandrum and I had to go to pick her up. That day I had a late lunch and before that I had some 3-4 pegs. I was wondering whether this will have any effect in the night if the cops are there with breath analyzers (Anyway I think 8 hours is a good gap). The flight got delayed and I drove to the Airport at 12 midnight and then back by 1.30 am only. No cops with breath analysers were there. Kerala is uniformly developed, and is better than other states/cities. I feel recharged when I fly down to Trivandrum for an extended weekend. Only thing that puts me off is the condition of our Retail Liquor outlets. We are pathetically poor and have third world standards in that aspect. And it is becoming more and more of an affair of lower strata of society, the crowd, the push and pull, everything is disgusting. Last time when I was here, I had to buy from bars, paying more. So this time I brought my Whiskey from Bangalore. Govt should start separate snazzier outlets for beer/wine and premium drinks. We can expect hue and cry from pseudo culturists and gandhians; but I don’t think it will have any adverse effect in the society, if that is the case, then Bangalore would have been gone down the drains. Now we have to depend on bars/ Agents at Airport Duty free shops/ leading clubs etc to home deliver us good liquor, without going through the harrowing time of standing in the Sun, by the road and to be put up with an unruly crowd, of course we have to shell out more from our pocket. Now what happens in Kerala is the rush for poor quality, substandard liquor and the patrons are more of lower and middle strata of societ. We are becoming more of an OPR/OCR culture. Not sure when this will change and we too will have liquor retail outlets in super market chains like Spencers, Big Bazaar, SPAR etc like in Bangalore.

I am happy to see this report if it is an indication of the growth of India/kerela cities. But to be honest I would be rather happy if the population of India is controlled. A country like India can not afford to grow further in terms of population. We should not be proud of that.

But i think this stats is not only about the 'new borns' adding the population. It denotes the city growth by attracting more population to the city. The population growth in these cities as predicted is largely based on : 1. The flow from rural to urban seeking employment possibilities and better living. 2. The expansion of cities, thus including more suburban population in to its account. The 'new-born' population will only be the last factor.
