DJ Savyo, Sekhar, Nash, Sachin etc. are Kochi's own DJs. Kochi also has more pubs and dance floors than all other places combined in the state.
Those who perform in Trivandrum or other parts of state are also known DJs and they do perform regularly . I don’t know what you mean by ‘own’ DJ’s. If that case, the famous AVIAL band who performs across state, Country or abroad need to be said as ‘TVM’s own brand’. Also Nash is mentioned as from Bangalore in many sources, anyway it is not a big issue. Also if Savyo or Nash is performing in Trivandrum, even though they ‘hail’ from other places, TVM appeals to them money wise and work wise and hence they come.

You can only make a sweeping comment that ‘Kochi will have more pubs and dance floors than ‘all other places combined in the state’; but it need not be true. Just check out the list of the resorts/hotels in Kovalam region, each and every such facility will be having dance floors.

The crux of the issue here was the news item here regarding the general safety of women, only you pulled in ‘quality night life’. Since it is a reply to the post, it has to relate to the primary point, that is the safety of the women.

UDF captures CPI(M) seat in Kerala
Quote:
Dealing a further blow to CPI-M, ruling UDF in Kerala on June 15 wrested the Neyyattinkara Assembly seat from it in the hotly contested by-election.
Congress candidate R Selvaraj defeated CPI(M)'s F Lawrence by a comfortable margin of 6,334 votes in the June 4 bypoll whose outcome has come as a morale-booster to the one-year old Oommen Chandy Ministry.

Selvaraj had resigned as CPI-M member of the assembly in March 2012 citing serious differences with the party leadership, causing the byelection, before joining Congress.

Though BJP candidate O Rajagopal finished third, he put up a credible fight polling 30,507 votes as against 52,528 by Selvaraj and 46,194 by the CPI-M candidate.

With today's result, UDF strength in the 140-member assembly goes up to 73 and reduced LDF's to 67.
The verdict came as a grim blow to the CPI(M) at a time when the party is already on the back foot in the wake of the arrest of some of its activists in connection with the recent brutal murder of Marxist rebel and RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan, a key issue in the bypoll.
KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala said the result was an endorsement of the performance of the Chandy Government and a befitting reply to the "politics of violence" practised by the CPI(M).

This is the second assembly by-poll won by the UDF after coming to power in May 2011. Four months back, its candidate Anoop Jacob of the Kerala Congress (J) retained the Piravom seat in Ernakulam district.

Shashi Tharoor is India’s Social Media King !

Indian Twitter users just got judged in a popularity contest.

The articulate Shashi Tharoor, a member of India’s lower house of Parliament and a prolific user of Twitter, is the most influential Indian in social media living in India, a newly compiled ranking says.

Pinstorm, a search marketing firm based in India, compiled a list of the most influential Indians in social media. It used Klout and PeerIndex, Web sites that rate social media influence, to come up with this ranking.

Mr. Tharoor, along with Rajdeep Sardesai, editor in chief of a news network, and the cricketer Virender Sehwag were the only non-Bollywood tweeters that made it to the top 10 Indian residents. Actress Madhuri Dixit was the top woman at No. 4, followed by another star Preity Zinta at No. 10 and Kiran Bedi, an activist and former police officer, at No. 11.

In the non-resident Indian list, the actor and stand-up comedian Aziz Ansari was ranked the top “influencer.” He beat out Deepak Chopra, the technology writer Om Malik and Sree Sreenivasan, a Columbia University journalism school professor.

Among Indian politicians, Mr. Tharoor once again came out on top. He was followed by Janlokpal, not an individual but a proposed anti-corruption agency, and Narendra Modi, the controversial Gujarat chief minister. India’s prime minister, Manmohan Singh, slipped in at No. 7.

Kerala State IT Mission's safety initiative wins eWorld award

ALAPPUZHA: Kerala State IT Mission's Intelligent Enforcement Automation System project won eWorld Jury Choice Award for 'Best Initiative For Use of ICT in Public Safety, Security and Disaster Management'.

KSITM coordinator K Sabarish received the award at the Grand Awards function held at Le Meridien in New Delhi on Friday. After receiving the award, Sabarish said it is recognition for the teamwork of IT Mission, Motor Vehicles Department, National Informatics Center, Keltron, BSNL and the Implementing agency Airtel and Technology partner Ifcon.

Union minister of human resource development and communications and IT, had launched eWorld Forum, a premier global conference held annually, in 2011. It is being organized by the Centre for Science, Development and Media Studies (CSDMS) and Elets Technomedia Private Limited in association with the Departments of IT, Telecom and Science and Technology, the National e-Governance Division, National Spatial Data Infrastructure, Unique Identity Authority of India and the Indira Gandhi National Open University.

"This project enables the enforcement of road rules by means of automatic capture of traffic offences like red light violation, over speeding and wrong direction driving and has the facilities of automatic number plate recognition, mobile-wireless technologies, geographical information systems (GIS) and global positioning system (GPS) technologies," Sabarish said.

"The video captured at the junction by the IP cameras, will be streamed to the control room's setup and attached to regional offices to monitor the junctions within its jurisdictional perimeter. The video analytics system will automatically detect traffic violations and the number plate of the offending vehicle is automatically captured and the registration details of the violating vehicles are extracted from the 'Smart-Move' database of the Transport Department,'' he said.
