For those wondering about the somewhat stark north facade, this building is tentatively planned to go right up against it.

What old building is that they're demolishing there in post #2? Do you have photos of it still standing as a whole?

This building is extra ugly in my opinion. when I first saw the renderings on another site I thought they were fake. Maybe if that black part was on both sides then it would be cool...

Neat project, looks promising. Any updates thus far? Is the demo completed yet?

I think it is okay, but in my mind, it should half as long and twice as high.

love the facade. And happy they are planning ahead by having a "blank" side for the other building that is going to go up near it.

Roosevelt University / VOA Associates
20Aug 2010 By Karen Cilento — Filed under: Educational , Mixed Use , Chicago, Roosevelt University, USA, VOA Associates

Roosevelt University will soon feature a new vertical campus, courtesy of VOA Associates. The existing campus layout makes it nearly impossible for the college to grow outwardly – so the only solution was to expand vertically. The 32 storey building is quite slim in profile, yet its wavy glass façade provides a distinguishing aesthetic touch.

Inside the 110 million dollar structure, the tower will accommodate academic facilities and offices, in addition to residences for more than 600 students, a fitness center and a dining hall. The building is spilt so the academic portion occupies the lower half of the tower, and the floors from the 17th to the top are allotted for student housing.

It is rare for a college’s campus to include such a tall tower – even if the campus is situated within a metropolis. In fact, VOA’s addition to the campus will make RU the owner of the second tallest campus building in the whole United States. Not only will the tower be a great addition to the campus by helping the campus provide for its increasing enrollment, but the tower will also create a significant new presence in the Chicago skyline.

Construction will be completed in 2012 and the building should obtain LEED Silver certification.
