SIX FLAGS AMERICA PREPARES FINAL VOYAGE FOR SKULL MOUNTAIN

Maryland theme park announces final days to take the journey on an iconic ride before preparation begins for 2012 attraction.

Six Flags America announced today that June 11 through July 10, 2011 are the final days for guests to set sail on Skull Mountain prior to the ride’s retirement to make way for a new attraction in 2012. Guests are encouraged to bring their mateys for a final cruise of the seven seas before the ride hoists anchor to begin its journey to Davy Jones’ Locker on Sunday, July 10, 2011.

“For more than a decade, guests at Six Flags America have been thrilled and inspired by Skull Mountain, giving them the feeling of joining a one-of-a-kind pirates’ voyage in Maryland’s favorite theme park,” said John Winkler, Six Flags America park president. “It’s a piece of history for Six Flags America and we feel it’s fitting to give it one last stand.”

The Bon Voyage countdown for Skull Mountain begins the week of June 13, 2011 when a boat is placed on the theme park midway offering unique photo opportunities for guests. A Fare-thee-Well Weekend for Skull Mountain is planned for July 9 and 10, 2011 and includes a two-day Pirate Festival, featuring pirate makeovers for guests and special entertainment from the cast of The Blundering Buccaneers stunt show. In addition, Six Flags America will host a last-rider auction, with proceeds benefitting the National Roller Coaster Museum and Archive. The park will donate a boat from Skull Mountain to the National Roller Coaster Museum following the final voyage in July.

An iconic mainstay of the American Main, this half thrill coaster/ half water flume was introduced in 1997 as the Typhoon Sea Coaster, designed and manufactured by Intamin, Ltd. of Switzerland. The first of its kind, the ride made history with a seven-story descent, at the time the world’s tallest for a water-powered coaster. Redubbed Skull Mountain in 2007, the ride’s 2,200-foot track has undergone several changes during its tenure at the park, creating an entirely different experience from its first introduction.

For a limited time, lads and lasses of every age may enjoy a final ride on Skull Mountain, as well as the rest of the thrills at Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor, while saving a few doubloons. Visit sixflags.com/America to learn more about Everyone Pays Kids’ Price at the park. Great values are also available with coupons from participating McDonald’s restaurants or on Coca-Cola products.

About Six Flags Entertainment Corporation: Six Flags Entertainment Corporation is the world’s largest regional theme park company with 2010 revenue of nearly $1.0 billion and 19 parks across the United States, Mexico and Canada. Six Flags Over Texas, the company’s flagship location, is celebrating its 50th anniversary season in 2011.

Windseeker at cedar point is open... took a lil longer than expected but have been hearing good ride reviews. Nothing posted yet or no clues for anything next year but im thinkin negative because they have had new rides the past 2 years. Cp usually waits a year or so between rides

That Devil Dive ride looks lame, and really ugly. Is that what passes as amusement in GA? Maybe too harsh. I'm sure that it is fun but what the hell...are all Six Flagg rides so ugly?

Cedar Point had an attendance record breaking weekend last weekend for the Halloweekend festivities they hold every year... Not sure if it was a halloweekends record breaker or daily record but heard from multiple people that were at the park and from the message boards at guidetothepoint.com that there was a TON of people there.. all Hotels and cabins at CP were sold out for the whole weekend. Great weather and the Browns having an off week probly factored in but either way it was a huge success for cedar point!

I remember that! When you've been going to Disneyland and Disneyworld's parking lot was to be bigger, it scattered your imagination-
but I prefer Disneyland.
.
There's a difference between "amusement parks" and "theme parks".
Cedar Point is an amusement park, like Kings Island, but Disney is a theme park. There are few classic rollercoasters at Disney and all the rides have a theme attached. Disney attractions either take their world renowned cue from television shows
(Davy Crockett, Hollywood Tower of Terror) or movies (Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, Showboat, Mary Poppins, Star Tours, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Cars..) or have had movies made about them (The Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Carribbean).
.
But Disneyland is all about theme, and attention to detail:

Did i say cp was a theme park? there is people other than myself that discuss CP and other amusement parks on this thread. I think you make comments just to start arguments and try to discredit people... and Technically CP has themed areas of its park (ie Frontier trail and Camp/Planet Snoopy..) so again do some research

I said Cedar Point (if that's what you mean by "CP") is an amusement park. That's all I said and, of course, I'm right. I know a lot of people who prefer the adrenaline rush of a place like "CP" over a place like Disney, but as far as themes go, Cedar Point is going to have to try harder to find it's theme.
It already has a premiere reputation in this world, but as there is a Camp Snoopy at Knott's Berry Farm and other Cedar Fair Entertainment sites I'd have to say, "Try Again."
.
How's that for research And now, more Disney:
