The Armani Group and Mind Group announce their partnership for the Art Residence by Armani/Casa in Chengdu, China

Milan, December 19th 2013 – The Armani Group is pleased to announce an exclusive partnership between the Armani/Casa Interior Design Studio and Mind Group for the design and development of a luxurious residential project in the city of Chengdu, China.

This will be the first residential development in China designed by Giorgio Armani, who will lead his Armani/Casa Interior Design Studio team in the creation of the residential units, common areas and amenities within the twin towers that constitute the Art Residence by Armani/Casa.

Consisting of two 222-meter high-rise buildings, each of 65 storeys, the Art Residence by Armani/Casa will be situated in a prime location in the centre of Chengdu, adjacent to the fashionable Jinjiang district and other areas for shopping and entertainment. Notably, just across the river lies the centuries-old Wang Jiang Park, built in the Qing Dynasty.

Featuring a swimming pool heated to a constant temperature on its rooftop, at a height of 210 metres, the new development will reflect Giorgio Armani's aesthetic sensibility and his hallmark sense of comfort and functionality throughout. Each apartment will be equipped with Armani/Casa furniture and accessories, an Armani/Dada kitchen and an Armani/Roca bathroom.

Giorgio Armani, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Armani Group, says, “China is a fascinating country and continues to be full of dynamic energy and promise for the future. I am delighted to be creating luxury residences in Chengdu, bringing a remarkable living space, imbued with the spirit of modern elegance, to this vibrant city, which, while it is truly of the twenty-first century, also has deep roots stretching back into the country’s fabled past.”

Mr Chen Dong, Chairman of Mind Group, says, “The Art Residence by Armani/Casa is not only an artistic masterpiece in the original Armani style, but also an extraordinary project that leads the property industry in China with its creativity and innovation. A brand new artistic world icon will be created that combines both the profound sense of Chinese culture represented by Mind Group, and the world class avant-garde fashion philosophy of the Armani Group.”

Residential units in the Art Residence by Armani/Casa in Chengdu, China, will be available for sale in the second half of 2014. The development is scheduled for completion in 2016.

Quote:
MLA+ was commissioned to re-design this exceptional project in Chengdu, the rising capital of Sichuan province in Southwest China. The Tianxi Twin Towers are the highest purely residential buildings in China and the highest residential only twin towers of the world.

Instead of the unified and monotonous glass surface of the previous design the facade concept acknowledges the fine grid of the residential units and weaves them into an overall composition that gives the towers a distinctive high class image. A new base integrates the twin towers into the complex geometry of surrounding urban fabric. The complex geometry of the site led us to propose a blurred boundary between inside and outside through a fractured roof form. The entrée of the super-high rise ensemble is supported by some commercial units, a convention hall and patio gardens.

In the next stage, the client has asked MLA+ to extend the functions of the towers to include high-rise swimming pools, sky bar and an extended lobby to offer amenities that match the high-profile of this special super-high rise ensemble.

They do look taller then they actually are, compare to other skyscrapers in Chengdu they really outstand and they quite dominant in that area, maybe because there are no tall buildings around..

So much better than the previous design. I'm glad that the news release acknowledges that the former design was a "unified and monotonous glass surface".

Test clading is on, and apparently it's that unified and monotonous glass surface which actually looks quite modern..

I just love how these towers soar over the surrounding commieblocks. Actually I hope these towers stand alone for at least a few years, looks really impressive!

The 333M Mandarin Oriental Hotel is under way right in front of it. Should be a nice little cluster.

This should be a beautifully clad pair of twin towers. I'm glad that they rescued it from the original humdrum design.

I love that curved design, I'm impressed with the prominence of the two towers of neighboring buildings have a much smaller scale of beauty and height !
