ATTENTION: *This section will be used to post ideas about further improvements to the Ethiopia section. The first order of things was to get subforums, but we can continue posting ideas about what improvements can be made to the forum as a whole.*

Im following what other Mods have done in other sections and requesting sub-forums for us

I'm making a formal request here. It will make things more organized and easy to locate if the forum are divided. Here is what I have so far:



1 Projects, Development and Construction

2 General Photography - self explanatory

2a.Ethiopian Cities

2b.Ethiopian Regions

3 Economic & Social Issues - self explanatory

3a.Disapora Economic & Social Issues

4 Bunna Bet - Off-topic/ Skybar

Thanks for replying guys and for your suggestions/support.

I have sent an email with this thread link to 625 the admin, and it looks like he will make the forums for us. The subforums such as Ethiopian Cities/Regions, and Diaspora will be added at a later time, but for now we will have 4 forums and the front page. I will try to move threads into there proper place in the following days.

This thread will stay up also to hear everyone's views and for any further suggestion that can be added in the future.

What do we use the Buna Bett section, Politics?

How about new ideas sticky. This is dear to my heart. We need to have a section where we deal with flawing ideas for continuous improvement.

you can use it for politics if you like, or topics that dont fit anywhere else. They may or may not have anything to do with Ethiopia, development, projects etc. If you have been to The Oasis in the The Africa section or Skybar in the other sections of Skyscrapercity...Buna Bet functions the same way.

The new ideas sticky is a good idea, I will create it soon and sticky it on the front page.

Thanx for the work Yosef. I have some Ideas.

Photography (don't need to say "general")

General photography - Ethiopia (ኢትዮጵያ) (e.g daily life pics, landscape,
wild life, Ethiopian women, etc...)

photography - Addis Ababa (አዲስ አበባ)
photography - Amara (አማራ) e.g Bahir Dar, Dessie
photography- Oromia (ኦሮምያ) e.g Nazret, Debre Zeiet

photography- southern peoples and nations (ደቡብ ብሔር ብሔረሰቦች)
e.g awassa, Dilla

photography- Tigrai (ትግራይ) e.g Mekelee
photography- Afar (አፋር)
photography- (ጋምቤላ)

etc... continue with all regions biggest on top smallest at the bottom. These are all have to be sticky. Addis gets its own. You can mix Afar, Gambella, Benshagul and other regions with no significant urban development in them.

Projects, developments and Constructions. (use plural on all)

Economic and social issues. (don't need to say "development" its confusing)

Bunna Bet. (Bunna is double "n")
news, politics, jokes, Ahadu's photo shop changes, (need to indicate this at the bottom of the subject)

Forum improvement and activity ideas

Notice I changed the order of the main subjects. Photography first, since it the main objective of this webstie, then goes down in importance. Bunna bet, last.
Let me know.

that is an excellent structure lamrof. I'll try my best to put alot of that into action. You are especially right about "Development" being taken out and the section being Economic & Social Issues instead. Development in two sections make it confusing as you said.

Unfortunately, I cannot rename the subforums myself, nor can I create new ones alone. I also cant change the description of said subforums. I'll have to wait for an administrator to do those things. I'll give a link to this thread and the ideas in it to the admins and hopefully someone will help us out.

Make sure you guys thank 625 when you get the chance also, he's the one who helped us get the subforms. (Check the updates in the opening post)

This seems to be a good ideas thread as well. I'll rename it and it will stickied.

If anyone else has any further ideas, please continue to post them here.

Yosef, thanx for the response. The zonal stickies in the photography section will avoid the need for users to label their threads as such since its labeled and put in a relating column.

As for the right to restructure our forum, I asked specifically for that right to be given to you but 625 said after consulting with other admins they declined and an admin has to do it, that is the response he gave me. We will need to check if other Mods have that right, such as Moroccan, Egyptian, if so not sure why you can't get it.

Anyway 625 is such an immense help and yes we thank him very much.

"forum activity and improvement ideas" sticky has to be a column not a thread. We need to be able to start threads in it with new ideas as subjects.

As for the columns, the admin told me that Ethiopia forum can only have 4 subforums for now but that it may grow to more in the future, thats why "Ideas" is a thread for the time being. In the future we may request it as a separate subforum.

The photo threads for each region is good, if someone starts them....like an "Amhara Regions photos" or "Afar Regions photos" as you suggested...I will happily sticky them like I did the Addis thread and the Ethiopia Country thread. I just need a person to get them started with some pictures.

I have moved alot of threads into the seperate forums. Let me know, either in this thread or by p.m., if you guys want anything stickied or merged or moved also. I'll try to get it to it as soon as possible.

Yosef, its a bummer that we can't have "ideas" subforum. The fact that it can only be a thread will disorganize it very quickly. Anyway Nigeria has 5, Tunisia has 8 and Algeria has 10 (check them how they are totally organized.) I am not sure why they limit us to 4!

As for the "regions" stickies, I can create the threads but you will have to move all existing threads to it. If this is ok let me know and I will start doing so.

Lamrof, we just got the subforums, the Nigerian, Algerian, etc have been there for a while so they've been expanding. We have to show that it's pretty active first before we overstretch ourselves.

Are you sure or are you just using common sense? Tunisia are a few threads and posts ahead of us but have 8 subforums. I think if we need it they will allow us to get it.

I am asking one more column for "ideas" that's all, so 5 in all.

Yeah, as time goes on we will definitely be getting more subforums, thats the message Im getting from the admins.

For the Regionally photography threads, go ahead and create them lamrof or anyone else & let me know, in this thread or by p.m., which threads need to be merged with them.

How about dedicating a special focus/form to the strategic marketing of Ethiopia. Topics discussed under this section would included, but not limited to;

-how to change the face image of Ethiopia with respect to the world, and us
-how proper marketing capabilities could continue to move ET's economy forward,
investors,(domestic, and international), relations, motivations,etc.
-bridging the gap of Ethiopia and World, through technology,eduction,etc.
-promoting tourism:how Ethiopia's contributing role in helping change the world from a historical, and present(No doubt here, for some it might not be obvious to see)

This is something Japopian mentioned in the past. We can discuss it here with us and I think its a priceless idea. Most of the stuff you mentioned has to do with the tourism ministry in Ethiopia. We can nudge them to come here and discuss with us.

The special focus forum has to be a general sub-forum which Yosef think we should wait for it a bit. Abesha and Tarrex feel the same way. So it seems there is a majority here who think that way. For now what you have is the ideads thread. Everything has to go in there.

I believe in ideas to improve things continuously. Without it we are as good as dead. This is a major flaw in our culture the way I see it.
