My region tries to get the so called "Umgebinde" houses on the list. Umgebinde houses are a combination of Frankish/German half-timbered houses and Slavic block houses. They are a testimonal of the German Ostsiedlung during the Middle Ages, when Germans and Slavs mixed in the border regions. They can be found almost exclusively in Upper Lusatia, but a few of them are in Northern Bohemia too. Today they spread over three countries: Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland. More than 5.000 can be found in Germany, I think around 1.200 in the Czech Republic, the Poles haven't counted yet.
Upper Lusatia is located in Saxony, but the Saxon state rarely supports such attempts. The argument is that listing a site on the Unesco heritage list hinders economic developement (at the same time the Saxon economic policy favors strict trickle-down economics, which discriminate rural Upper Lusatia). That's why the relevant Upper Lusatian institutions try to initiate a cross-border bid without the help of Saxony (the good thing about being a federal country).

Anyway, some pics. The Slavic block house is surrounded by a frame construction (the actual Umgebinde) which supports the upper, timber-framed, part of the house.

I think the Calanques de Cassis near Marseille (France) could be on the list:

How much of the original tube is left. You are aware that when it's on the list you can't make any significant changes to the original. Seems all very unlikely.

^ Oh yeah, that'd really make one serious application! Did they apply for it already?

Taal Volcano Protected Landscape, Batangas
"Taal volcano has a unique geological history. Formation-wise, it cannot be compared with other volcanoes because it was formed through one major eruption at the center of the lake, and since the lake itself is the crater of a prehistoric volcano. The vista from the rim is unrivaled." - UNESCO

Birmingham's Jewelley Quarter.

Admittedly not a sniff to the landscape of some, but the heritage cannot be ignored with some of the important historical discoveries that occurred.

This UNESCO list is worthless . Way too long to be some kind of special and often an obstacle to progress.

So many buildings and places should be on the list...art should be protected everywhere...and definetly everything posted here is beautiful and special in its own way, but if I had to choose the most outstanding, Orchha and Bagan would be the ones. Impressive both !!
