The President of Georgia Visited Kakheti Region

The President of Georgia went to Sighnaghi today and visited a newly opened hotel "Solomon 1805" that belongs to "Chkonia Holding Group". All required conditions are created for the guests and visitors for leisure and fun, as well as for working purposes. The hotel has very comfortable rooms, modern conference room and a restaurant. The President pointed out that such infrastructure gives a chance to develop tourism in Sighnaghi and gives a chance to the population to get additional income.
"The hotel has very comfortable rooms, four years ago we declared that we would start revival in Sighnaghi and I remember this was just an ordinary and unsightly town, surrounded with hopelessness. The population was leaving it. Today, when we face so many challenges, among them in economic sphere - prices are increasing on fuel, food and on elementary consumer products - the only way out for us is strengthening of agriculture. Especially, when we are not a country obtaining fuel. This is why we are introducing new seeding material and new breeds. We also have to create new jobs, in order to give people a chance to work and have a chance to buy expensive products. One of the important means of employment in Georgia is tourism. Temur Chkonia built a really high-class hotel in Kobuleti. Now he constructed this hotel, which is of high-class as well. We recently visited Svaneti together and we are starting the construction of new hotel in Mestia as well. Every constructed hotel means additional employed people. The most important thing is that the change was made in Sighnaghi and people believed for better. This change means an additional income for their families, because at least there is one employed person in each family. For these people all social problems, among them increased prices on flour, products, fuel - is undoubtedly painful, but when there is no way out, we have no perspective and we are depending practically on fate the situation is rather heavy", the President of Georgia noted.
The President continued his way to village Jugaani and visited new school of modern standards. 268 children study in this school. The school has a library, sport's palace, an open door square, computer lab, and rooms of natural sciences, English, defense and security lessons. Mikheil Saakashvili attended a class of physics and spoke with schildren and teachers. He handed computers to two most successful schoolchildren Salome Kikalishvili and Mariam Zedelashvili with laptops.
"Educated society looks this way - if you are well-prepared, no matter how difficult the economic situation is - everybody will have the same chances. You have exactly the same conditions, as children have in California, Hong Kong and Changhai. The major thing for you is to have quality of education. I spoke with the Minister of Education already about the implementation of inventor's contest. Before that we must hold such contests at schools. Rewards and benefits must be brought in for such purposes in order to make each child to think about creating and inventing something. If we don't want to study invention, thinking and then its implementation in life, we will be left behind the world competition hopelessly. Our aim is that each of you finally to create something with this little inventions. It is good that you participate in Olympics. The major thing is that we would have conditions for studying and receiving information. It is very important for everyone to read and write in English. Access to the information in internet is also very important. In today's practice, modern knowledge changes in such a fast tempo that you have no time even to print out the placards - because it gets old so quickly. Some certificates becomes out of date in the process of printing, this is why you have to be in internet permanently, search, study and think. Why are you less than those people, who invent and create? You must invent something new and make your teachers, school, parents and your village Jugaani proud of you", the President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili stated.
The President spoke with the local population that specially gathered to meet him. The President stressed his attention on the development of agriculture and on the creation of new jobs.
"I am glad that new school opened. We have opened several schools like this and every time I cant stop thinking about having such schools in whole Georgia. I am glad that we came here passing a very good concrete road. This road was destroyed before and we almost used tractors instead of cars. It is true that we still have to do more. For example we have to bring the ambulatory in order. Though, everything will be done step-by-step. The main thing is that when price on products increase so rapidly, we have to cultivate the land and create products. We are introducing new seeding breeds, train people, but Kakhetian land is so good that if people will start working - no matter how serious the drought is - they can reach everything. Who works hard, they are able to feed their families and country as well. I want to create conditions, when people standing on the streets, become attached to the land, because there is so much land that is not cultivated around us. And we have no ability to have harvest. Our country needs to produce products as never before, because everything gets more expensive. We must invent such technologies that we would never need to import anything from foreign countries and to export our technologies to the world market. Many inventors would be raised in this new school. Their families, village and the whole country will be proud of them", - Mikheil Saakashvili noted.

პრეზიდენტმა შემდეგ სოფელ ჯუგაანში გადაინაცვლა და ახალი, თანამედროვე, საერთაშორისო სტანდარტების შესაბამისი საჯარო სკოლა დაათვლიერა, რომელშიც 268 მოსწავლე სწავლობს. სკოლას აქვს ბიბლიოთეკა, სპორტული დარბაზი, ღია მოედანი, კომპიუტერული ლაბორატორია, საბუნებისმეტყველო საგნების, ინგლისური ენისა და თავდაცვისა და უსაფრთხოების კაბინეტები. მიხეილ სააკაშვილი ფიზიკის გაკვეთილსაც დაესწრო და მოსწავლეებსა და მასწავლებლებს გაესაუბრა. ორ წარჩინებულ მოსწავლეს, სალომე კიკილაშვილსა და მარიამ ზედელაშვილს პორტატული კომპიუტერები გადასცა.

New ski resort to be constructed in Adjara

One more ski resort will be constructed in Adjara. A new sport complex was opened in the village of Danisparauli, Khulo district, today. This will be the third mountain-ski resort after Gomarduli and Kedlebi in Adjara.
In the new resort, the government plans to construct the longest ski tracks in Georgia with rope-ways and holiday cottages.
The sport complex in Danisparauli village is already operating. Three instructors are training 100 young sportsmen there today.
Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili visited the complex today and met with the instructors together with the chairperson of the Adjara government head Levan Varshalomidze.
President spoke about the projects which the government plans to implement in the region to develop tourist infrastructure, including construction of new roads.

Khulo Ski Resort to Host Tourists from Next Year
24-01-2011 Adjara’s ski resort in Khulo will host tourists from the next year. The statement has been made by Georgia’s President Mikheil Saakashvili during his visit to a ski resort under construction in Khulo. A sport base has been opened in Danisparauli village of Khulo region today by the President. According to him, ski tracks and ski lifts are being built in Khulo resort zone. The Resort will be ready to get tourists from December next year. Saakashvili stated that Georgia has received financial aid within the sidelines of the Millennium Challenge Program. The funds will be spent on Khulo-Adigeni highway construction. Adjara’s autonomous government got a commission by the President to equip Khulo ski resort in the best possible way. “We must promise ourselves that on December 1 next year we will have a very good ski resort with 5 km ski run here in Khulo. It will be a longer ski track than there are in Gudauri or Bakuriani. It should be the best one in Georgia”, Saakashvili said.

Foreign Businessman Acquires Several Georgian Clinics

Foreign Investor Daniel Gufta has acquired several medical institutions in Georgia – General Therapy Clinic, Pediatric Clinic after the Zubalashvilis and Eyesight Clinic “Vision” . The privatization auction of the clinics has been held at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
The Businessman has paid GEL 330,000 for the General Therapy Clinic, GEL 740,000 for the Pediatric Clinic after the Zubalashvilis and GEL 500,000 for the Eyesight Clinic. He has already purchased a gynecological clinic as well.
According to the auction terms, the owner is obliged to maintain the profile of the institutions for the next 7 years. Herewith, there is no information posted about the businessman on the official website of the Ministry of Economy of Georgia.

Saakashvili visited new resort zone in Khulo region

A new sports complex with a ski slope and a ski lift opened in Khulo district in Adjara on the same day. Local children will be trained in Danisparauli village for championship and in the future the village will also host tourists. Visiting the complex with the Head of the Adjara Government Levan Varshalomidze, Saakashvili shared the projects aimed at developing tourist infrastructure in the region. Hoping that the new base would be better than all the others the President promised that money received from the Millennium [Challenge Corporation] would be used for road rehabilitation purposes.

Saakashvili noted that Alpine skiing is an elite sport for 20-30 thousand wealthy and middle class families living in the centre of Tbilisi and has the possibility to become one of the main bases of economical development of our country. “We should turn skiing into a massive sport available for everyone. That’s why schools will receive skis free,” Saakashvili said. He added, “We are initiating starting an experimental production of local skis,” confident that tourism development will be the means to pass from poverty to wealth.

Economic analyst Gia Khukhashvili doubts the efficiency of the President’s policy. “I think the much-talked about tourism can’t fully ensure economical growth without systemic changes. We have lots of experienced rivals in this direction; moreover our climate, infrastructure, etc are not suitable for a “tourist country”. Steps should definitely be made in this direction but Georgia is no Turkey or Egypt and should not build its economical development on tourism alone,” Khukhashvili told The Messenger.

Vera Kobalia: Interest from Turkish investors in Georgian economy is increasing

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Vera Kobalia was on a business trip to Turkey on January 24-25. Vera Kobalia gave a speech at a forum named “Invest for the Future: Women Driving Economic Growth” held under the patronage of US State Department and US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton. Moreover, Minister held meetings with the managers of leading Turkish business companies. Keti Bochorishvili, Head of National Investment Agency was also a member of the Georgian delegation.

Tourism, agriculture, shipbuilding, textile manufacture, - this is just a short list of all those directions that interested Turkish businessmen in Georgia. Minister introduced the main investment projects to the potential investors at every meeting. Many of them are interested in participating in the projects of Anaklia, Kobuleti and Mestia development and some of them are willing to establish new business streams in Georgia e.g. during the visit with Vera Kobalia, manager of one of the biggest shipbuilding companies, Ersan Bakanay mentioned that he is planning to personally visit Georgia in order to find a place for establishing a modern shipyard.

“Ata Holding,” one of the biggest Turkish companies is planning to open its representation in Tbilisi. Management and construction of biggest tourism complexes in Turkey is on the balance of the company. Moreover, the company owns textile factories. “Ata Holding” is the owner of “Burger King” and other restaurant networks. It is also the owner of construction materials manufacturing and developing companies.

Vera Kobalia’s meeting at Turkish-Georgian Culture and Education Fund, which is managed by Ismet Ajar, one of the richest persons in Turkey, was also quite fruitful. He is the owner of “Ajar Holding” which is one of the biggest multi-profile companies in Turkey. Ismet Ajar is intending to invest in Georgia. He is interested in tourism projects especially in Anaklia project.

It was also revealed at the meeting that a document concerning the construction of a multi-profile Medical Clinic in Batumi will be signed between Georgian side and one of the biggest Turkish medical clinics “Medical Park” in the nearest future. Employed doctors will pass their internships in “Medical-Park” Clinics. “Medical Park” owns 14 hospitals throughout Turkey.

Turkish business circles have already planned their meetings in Georgia; concrete agreements will be made during their visit.

Before coming back to Georgia, Vera Kobalia gave a summarizing interview to journalists; including Bloomberg which took an extensive interview from her.

McDonald’s expands its network in Georgia

McDonald’s has stated that due to high demand, the company will open around five new restaurants throughout Georgia within the next two years.

The world’s largest fast food chain entered in Georgia in 1999 and quickly became a favorite destination for adults and teenagers. McDonald’s currently Georgia has four chains throughout the country, three in Tbilisi and one in Kutaisi.

Under an agreement signed between Socar, Azerbaijan’s state oil company, and McDonald’s Georgia, Socar will open McDonald’s restaurants at service stations in Tbilisi, Batumi, Telavi and Marneuli. A new restaurant will also open on Tsereteli Avenue in Tbilisi with an estimated investment of around $ 3 million.

Serving more than 58 million customers daily, McDonald’s sells hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fries, breakfast items, soft drinks, chicken products, shakes, and desserts. After more than 60 years of operation worldwide, McDonald’s restaurants can be found in 119 countries, with over 31,000 restaurants worldwide. In 2010, McDonald’s s net profit came to $ 4.55 billion.

Ukrainian tour-agencies visit Mestia ski resort

The representatives of leading Ukrainian tourist agencies were hosted in Mestia today. The guests were impressed with the newly opened ski-resort, popularization of which is on the agenda of Georgian Tourism Department. The guests were familiarized with the tourism infrastructure of the resort, visited museums and other sightseeing.
According to the statistics of the Tourism Department, 50,000 visitors arrived in Georgia from Ukraine in 2010, which is with 22% more in comparison with last years. The tourism department hopes to attract more tourists from Ukraine after today`s tour.
`We considered that Ukrainian tourists are particularly attracted by our resorts and decided to organize an introductory tour for leading Ukrainian tour-agencies. We hope the popularity of Mestia as a ski-resort will grow after this tour,` the deputy chairperson of the Tourism Department told Rustavi2.

Georgian president opened a reconstructed building of the professional college in the village of Kachreti, Kakheti Region today. Mikheil Saakashvili and the Minister of Education, Dimitri Shashkini viewed the college dormitory, hotel and the wine cellar.
Kachreti has a college of old traditions, the graduates of which have always been professional staff in the sphere of tourism, agriculture, construction and the service sector.
The rehabilitated college will have 505 students annually. Free rooms will be available for 300 students in the college dormitory. The partner companies will consider the further employment of the graduates of the Kachreti College.
The partner companies are Avant Garde, Teliani Valley, Shukhman Wine Georgia, Georgian Marani, Corporation Kindzmarauli, hotels of Sighnaghi and other regions.
The college has 250 students and 42 pedagogues at present.

საქართველოს პრეზიდენტმა კაჭრეთის პროფესიული კოლეჯის რეაბილიტირებული შენობა გახსნა. მიხეილ სააკაშვილმა და განათლებისა და მეცნიერების მინისტრმა დიმიტრი შაშკინმა კაჭრეთის პროფესიული კოლეჯის საერთო საცხოვრებელი, სასტუმრო და ღვინის სახლი დაათვალიერეს. კაჭრეთის პროფესიული კოლეჯი მდიდარი ტრადიციების მქონე სასწავლებელია, რომელიც საქართველოში სოფლის მეურნეობის, ტურიზმის, მშენებლობის და მომსახურების სფეროს კადრების მომზადების ერთ-ერთ ძირითად წყაროს წარმოადგენს.
ახალი ტიპის კოლეჯში წელიწადში 505 სტუდენტი მიიღებს პროფესიულ განათლებას. 300-მდე სტუდენტი ისარგებლებს უფასო საერთო საცხოვრებლით. კოლეჯის კურსდამთავრებულები პარტნიორ კომპანიებში დასაქმდებიან.
საუკეთესო კურსდამთავრებულების დასაქმების სურვილს გამოთქვამენ პარტნიორი კომპანიები: შპს `ავანგარდი`, სს `თელიანი ველი`, შპს `შუხმან ვაინ ჯორჯია`, შპს `საქრთველო მარანი`, კორპორაცია `ქინძმარაული`, სიღნაღისა და კახეთის სხვადასხვა რაიონის სასტუმროები.
ამჟამად კოლეჯში სწავლობს სხვადასხვა ეროვნების 250 სტუდენტი და ასწავლის 42 მასწავლებელი.
