Stadium boom in Russia these days, especially football stadiums with no tracks are being built or planned. Very good

Nice stadium but far too big for Mordovia Saransk (2009 average attendance: 2,789). They'd have to get into the top division (they're not currently) and increase their attendance 10-15 times to justify building this.

You have been misinformed. In 2009 the average attendance FC Mordovia had 3920 visitors in the Second Division zone of Ural-Volga region (third level). In 2010, after five home matches in the First Division (second level), average attendance rose to 6000 spectators. Stadium 14000.

But they still don't need a 45,000 seat stadium. It would be better (and cheaper) for them to build a new stadium with, say, 10,000 seats, see if they can fill that regularly and then expand as needed. FC Mordovia's attendance might have risen a bit, however it will have to go up a lot more to justify the expense of building a 45,000 seat stadium.

After the World Cup they will disassemble the temporary structure, capacity will be 25000. Something similar happened in Austria in Salzburg after Euro 2008.

Now this project makes a bit more sense, although I still think 25,000 is a bit too big for a team that averages 3-6,000.

Wals-Siezenheim stadion or red bull arena from salzburg has 31.895 places, same capacity like for EURO 2008. You confused salzburg arena with other austrian venues tivoli- insbruck and hypo- klagenfurt for which it is being considered whether the stadium should be reduced to the capacity after Euro.
Indeed Tivoli arena capacity has been reduced to 17.400 (from 30.000) and hypo arena to 25.000 (from 30.000)

Plan of stadium location:

Yandex.Maps

Based on last information, capacity will be 34,000 + 10,000 temporary.

Nice idea, but somehow I think that Russia will drop the number of stadiums they actually build and use at the World Cup to 12, and that Saransk will be one of the ones cut. It has a small population compared to most of the other proposed host cities, has few tourist attractions, and a very small club team to occupy the stadium afterwards

Do not worry, this stadium will be built by 2012 to 100%. Its initial capacity will be 30,000 expandable to 45,000 if Saransk fall in the number of selected cities in World Cup 2018.
