Most favourite city in Kenya and why
I have never started many threads before but I think that this topic will generate tons of responses primarily because this is a topic that has never, to my knowledge, been brought up.
I was born and raised in Nairobi but since Nairobi is so big, I think many will chose different areas. I have hang out in some of the "best" areas and some of the "worst" too, from Kibera to Lavington I had diverse friends so I know Nairobi in a unique way. Westlands for the trendy clubs and shopping but areas like Nairobi West, South B and South C always had that charm about them that will never leave me, the small pubs with the regulars who always made things interesting. Nakuru is my second city mainly because it continues to be the coziest city in Kenya and possibly the city that retains that ability to be able to plan a first world city with the right kind or road netwok, rail and even subway potential since it is still small enough and also has some good planning already. Thika is another place I like, if you know where to go, you could spend a week realxing here with just enough of the nice restaurants and hotels but also reataining some of the charm of a city yet to be redone to suite investers. Nyeri is a small town that I spent alot of time in when I was younger, this is deep in the country but has some great homes, bars, reataurants among many things. I have not been home for awhile, I plan to visit this year with my kids but I would love to read what other people think. Kisumu has always intrigued me because I have many friends from their but I have never been, Mombasa is a great place but I have only been their 3 times so I don't have an intimate connection to the place. |

Thats a hard choice for me.
Nairobi coz its Nairobi, Mombasa coz of the coast and Kisumu coz, we lived near there. Damn hard choices to make. Each city has something that i love.

I wouldn't live in any city apart from Nairobi. When i visit Mombasa i sort of feel am not in Kenya!life is soo laid back, weather is different and the culture is different.Kisumu feels the same way too for me.I just love Nairobi and its chaos, hype, skyscrapers and diversity.

Nakuru....... Hands down
1. Safer than Nairobi 2. less of a crowd 3. Half way to Ingo 4. One can reach Nairobi, work and go home |

Kisumu, because it reminds me a lot of what Nairobi was like when I grew up in the 70s and 80s. When Nairobi was quite beautiful and not as dysfunctional as it is today.

Nyeri, My home town.
Followed by Nakuru, Mombasa, Nairobi, Kisumu. All of them have something unique about them.

i love ukambani (it is the land of my ancestors), specifically a very very small town called mbitini town in kitui district. its out there in the middle of nowhere but there is a special charm about that little town that i cant get enough of. the town that embodies what kenya is i.e we work hard, we play hard, and take care of each other.
we do not have a commercially viable agricultural production but we know how to do business. apart from kitui town, mbitini is the second largest source of tax revenue in kitui district ahead of other bigger, well located and adequetely located towns in the district.(words from the District's commissioners himself[take them for what they are worth]) mbitini people make things happen out of nothing. we drink kaluvu(muratina) more than anyonelse and we work harder than anyone else in search of a better life. i love my hometown more than anyother place. 2nd fave town in chogoria in meru, i went to a private boarding primary school there for 5years and chogoria bacame my "home" i love nairobi cuz its where kenya bursts into life!!!! the big tend where all kenyans from all walks of life feel they belong. |
