Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus to face land-grabbing charges

Dhaka, May 18 (bdnews24.com) — A Gazipur court has summoned Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus to face land-grabbing charges.
Libra Pharmaceuticals filed a case against the Grameen Bank founder, saying that Yunus and 13 others encroached upon the company land.
The Joint District Judges Court-1 issued the summons after Libra managing director Roushan Alam lodged the complaint.
Mohammed Pyar Ali, the plaintiff's lawyer, told bdnews24.com that judge Jayashree Samaddar issued the summons on May 16 after a hearing.
According the case, Yunus, also chief patron of Grameen Telecom, and 13 other officials of the company forcibly took possession of 15.6 acres under Gazipur Sadar upazila.
Others served with the summons are Grameen Telecom's managing director Ashraful Hasan, Prasad Paradise's chairman Abu Yusuf Mohammed Abdullah, Maj Mostofa Kamal, Md Nasir Uddin, Khokon Choudhury, Chowdhury Moniruzzaman, Md Nazmul Islam, Abu Naim Maksudur Rahman, Maj Mohammed Akram-uz-Zaman, Ashraf Ali, Md Ahsan Ullah, Multimax International Ltd's managing director KM Alamgir and Anwar Kamal Pasha.
Pyar Ali said some of the accused and their representatives on Mar 7 came to take over the plaintiff's land. Anwar Kamal Pasha made three deeds and sold 9.24 acres to Grameen Telecom on Nov 22, 2009.
Multimax International Ltd's managing director KM Alamgir sold the rest of the land to the remaining 11 accused in parts.
"Roushan Alam brought the land from the original owners as recorded in 1998", the plaintiff's lawyer said.

Either the claims are legit but it could be a set up since the rich Bangladeshis want to kep the poor people poor.
