Mapera house to be ready by end year
SATURDAY, 28 MAY 2011 09:08 PAUL TENTENA
KAMPALA, UGANDA- One of Uganda's tallest buildings, Mapera House, will be opened for business before the end of the year, a top Centenary Bank official told East African Business Week.

Mapera house, a 17 storey tower in the middle of Kampala city, is expected to host Uganda's biggest indigenous bank Centenary Rural Development Bank.
"The Mapera house project has delayed but we hope by the end of the year, it will be open," explained Mr. Fabian Kasi the managing director Centenary Rural Development Bank.

Kasi said this during the bank's Cente challenge competition, where Centenary Bank staffs were challenged about different products offered by the bank, as well as improving their knowledge about the bank.

Over 1200 bank staffs took part in the competition, of which six were finalists. Martin Musinguzi, a staff from the Kapchorwa Branch, emerged the overall winner. He walked away with an Ipod and a Blackberry Mobile Phone.
"The contest will go on up to the end of the year. We want our staff to easily interpret the core values of our bank to our clients," added Kasi.

Construction firm, Roko, won the contract in September 2007, to construct the 17 floor building. It was expected to take 13 months after its first design of eight floors; however the Catholic Church funded project has dragged on. His Eminence the Cardinal, Emmanuel Wamala presided over the ground breaking ceremony.

"Mapeera House will be spacious with modern Banking facilities that will ease congestion at Entebbe Road arising from our ever-growing loyal clientele and help us to offer a conducive Banking environment," said Prof. John Ddumba Ssentamu, the board Chairman of Centenary bank, during the contract signing ceremony with Roko Construction.

Centenary Bank has a branch network of over 40 branches, with the microfinance loan scheme, one of the profitable services of the bank.
The bank announced early in the year that its total assets will reach $400 dollars by this year.
