I'm sorry for dragging this discussion into the light again, but I feel I have to aid my take on it too.

Actually, that's not true. I would estimate that about 80% of Oslos inner city consist of building made before ww1. I would also say we have higher percentage of older buildings than say Stockholm, but Stockholm have been very good at preserving buildings where it matters to tourists (primarly the old town and the skyline). We have never cared such thing and instead most of our older buildings are located outside of the central areas where it was less demand for office space, train tracks, roads and fewer people cared about any re-invention of the city. Sadly these areas where we laid our tracks and roads, and build our ugly, 70's highrise boxes are also where tourists (the few we have) see.

But if you take walk around the City, to areas such as Vålerenga, Kampen, Skillebekk, Uranienborg, Majorstua, St. Hanshaugen and so on, you will see the areas we who lives here loves. Here are some Pictures taken from Google Earth to show you what I mean:

This is how most of Oslo looks like. What we do miss is a coherent downtown and a old town. We do try to develop the downtown further at the moment (to much complains from the nimbyes), but the old town train have sadly gone.

I'm not sure what you are trying to do, dj4life?

Are your only goal to show some tourist photos of Stockholm, to show that stockholm is more spectaluar than my pics of Oslo (which I have purposely chossen from Google Maps to not get that tourist photo feeling and was more choosen to show the diversity of the city than nothing else) or are you just showing how empty most of your streets looks after all the people moved to Oslo?

I don't think this was meant to be a picture tread. I only added my as a response to the comment that we didn't have any old buildings. Rest of the pictures in this tread have been from people defending their city or pictures used to describe the city they are voting for, like above.

No one have said anything negative about Stockholm thus far. Not even me. It's no need to the defend it. The most negative thing about the city is its conservatism artictecture as evident in Whites recent re-invention of the commie block in the prime spot of your downtown.

Few people seem to agree with given the speed Oslo is currently growing in. I'm quite calm btw. It's was tongue-in-cheek.

I just don't understand, why do you think like that, since i didn't even realise your post before seing a comment about the pictures posted by me. Moreover, it wasn't me comparing Oslo with Stockholm.

Scandinavian Cities always look so clean! Wonderful! And yet I couldn't detect any mosques... Europe what it could, what should and what it one day hopefully again will be like.

Mosques usually are in the suburbs, where majority of immigrants live. However, there aren't many of these buildings in the region yet.

It just come across like you was trying to prove something to me. I'm sorry if I was wrong, but I still think this isn't the right tread for your pictures. But perhaps that's just me.

Well, it may be that you missunderstood something. I just posted my comments for fun because, honestly, i like many cities and don't bother to rank them. What i wanted to do is to share some pictures (like some other members do).
