Is it thàt important if Edinburgh is the capital of a sovereign state or not?
It's the capital of Scotland so it's a capital.
So if Eduardo finds it's a beautiful capital of Scotland, what's the problem?

If that's the case, I would also like to include Munich (capital of Bavaria) and Venice (capital of Veneto) to my list.

If Scotland is counted as a country so would be Saxony and Bavaria, which are Freistaaten (Freestates) and wich have their own parliament buildings. That beeing said, Munich and Dresden should pop up in some of the lists as well, as they are beautiful cities.

I consider Prague as the most beautiful capital too, because of its perfectly preserved historic architecture. But some people might consider this as boring. They prefer a modern cityscape or an equally mixed cityscape of old and new. They might consider contrasts beautiful.

If Prague could ever reduce the # of touristy junk stores in the Old City they'd definately be a contender for #1. For a modern cityscape, the New Angel shopping center near Angel metro is amazing. Compared to the Northeast US we don't have anything that modern that's completely served by mass transit (many trams, metro lines, etc.)

For now I'd place Vienna slightly ahead because it still feels more like a working city and has much less touristy junk (seemed like every other storefront in Prague sold Bohemian crystals, Russian dolls/hats, or t-shirts). The Gasometer in Vienna was an amazing example of reuse of a historic structure.

If you're going that far why not Barcelona (Catalan) or Bilbao (Basque). Starts to be really splitting hairs at some point.

^ Right. And I don't even give a damn about what s.o. counts as a capital or not in here. I just thought that we would only post capitals of countries (what Scotland clearly is) and not of regions/provinces.

I suppose I'd have to go with Vatican City as there aren't any parts that are ugly.

Bilbao isn't already the capital city of the Basque country, so.... The capital is Vitoria.

Should have looked that up first, must have thought it was Bilbao because it's the biggest and most well known Basque city. Sorry

For now i've visited just Ljubljana, Zagreb, Wien and Berlin. I go with Berlin for now. A very nice atmosphere even if the architecture isn't one of my faves.
