I guess the idea of the roof comes from JLT, Girondins president. He talk about the Gelredome (Vitesse Arnhem Stadium) because he has visted this stadium and he said that he would like to have the same at Bordeaux.

But you have right, the additional cost of this roof, which is estimate around 20~30M, is not need in the south west part of France.

SudOuest (Local Newspaper) give today the names of all current candidats for the stadium of Bordeaux, the maximum number is 5. They will be officially selected during a meeting this next thursdays.

Quote:
Grand stade de Bordeaux : cinq candidats à la réalisation du projet
(trans: Big Bordeaux Stadium: 5 candidats to project realisation.)
[...]:

So Jean Nouvel's architect for Bouygues was a rumor wrong.

Maybe Nouvel wasn't a rumor but Bordeaux's budget for this stadium is very very cheap... Nouvel is reputed for his ingenious ideas and often very expansive... whereas Valode et Pistre are more reputed for the cheapness of their ideas!

Anyway, Foster is in the game it should be interesting, but I bet on the win of Herzog and De Meuron

The Candidates are:

- DV Construction (Bouygues Group) with Quille & CDC, associated with Valode & Pistre architects.
- Vinci Concession, Vinci Construction & Fayat associated with Herzog et de Meuron

Candidates for the construction, Vinci, Bouygues and Eiffage, must submit their bids this morning at the mayor of Bordeaux.

Sudouest newspaper said also that:
Quote:
Budget too short

Precisely, the budget seems a little short. With "only" 165 million euros, none of the three candidates from entering the envelope reveals a source close to the matter. But to clarify: "This is the challenge of the coming weeks, the principle of competitive dialogue, the major assets will not be slaughtered immediately. "
It is true that for a stadium of this size (43,500 seats), the prices are one step above, in a range between 200 million and 250 million euros. The difference is considerable. This does not mean that the project will be stoped. In fact, builders can help change some clauses: the establishment of shops - but the area is saturated, and the President of CUB wants freeze on settlements; other option is the rent that the manufacturer will who operate and maintain the stadium for thirty years before returning to the community. There is still room for maneuver.

Not a bad idea. I'm not sure but I think Bordeaux aera weathers is pretty cool (at least for grapevine!).

Maybe the naming rights could help close the gap.

Article in the local newspaper:
Bordeaux: the big stadium will be, but what can be the prize?

Bordeaux's Mayor confirm the stadium. Candidates for the build-operate are encouraged to seek additional revenue.

The stadium seats 43,500 (not anymore!) will take place in the axis of parking Bordeaux-Lac, near the velodrome.

Quote:

source: Sud Ouest

What is really interesting to know:

1-The Mayor confirm the Stadium and the presentation will be durint the Town Hall council the 18th juillet.

2-The ground where the stadium will be built is a real sponge. This zone was before a swamp. This fact would increase the cost by 30M.

i do hope the architects respect the current stadium Bordeaux has. I love it, it´s unique, had some Roman feeling to it. Hope to see something back in the designs.

Yes, it is "una magnifica arena", but don't be worry because some rumor said that it will be use for Rugby or Athletics sport in the futur.

For somebody doesn't know the Bordeaux's stadium:

Chaban Delmas Stadium (aka Parc Lescure) in Bordeaux, where play FCBG.

For the football, the new article say that:

"2- Major projects?

The three projects are original and quite remarkable in architectural terms. And despite the constraints. Financial constraints but also constraints arising from the specificities of the site. It is a former swamp and the land is narrow. 150 meters wide and 200 feet long roughly. The building can not be spread. What might have led the architects to submit works very compact, pure and airy.
"

So we expecting an impressive new stadium in Bordeaux, let's see in july.

The 6 May, the Newspaper "Le Parisien" give how the subvention from the french state will go to.

Marseille : 28M
Bordeaux : 28M
Lille : 28M
Lyon : 20M
Nice : 20M
Lens : 12M
Nancy : 8M
Saint-Etienne : 8M
Toulouse : 6M
Paris : 0M
Saint-Denis : 0M

sorry I did found how to down size this picture.

+8M for Bordeaux.

So the minimum budget move up from 165M to 173M (100M from Girodndins 28M State; 3x15M City/CUB/Region) even if at the end we expecting a budget around 200M.
