too "modern"?? no i think

From exterior ok it is like a museum but inside it has nothing more modern than actual stadiums imo.

It doesn't produce a surprise effect when you see classical tribunes.

I'm talking about outside aspect.

For in, which is the most important, it is very fine and I very impress by the efficiency of the architecture compare to budget and to other constrains (ground, orientation, etc)

I like the exterior, very classical looking, kinda reminds me of a squared up brasillia stadium, but thats not a bad thing imo

Its very elegant, with an amazing delicate/thin quality to it for a stadium. Very crisp and looks great in a park like site. Don't know if its quite up to their Portsmouth proposal, but its got a realistic budget and is actually happening. Could be my favorite French stadium, though the new Lille one is promising and I have always really loved the end stands of the Stade Gerland. Anyway looks like it could be the class of the tournament from my perspective.

Stadium - Signature of the partnership contract
Signature of the partnership contract for the new Bordeaux stadium

Friday 28 October 2011 - 22h59

Signature of the partnership contract for the new Bordeaux stadium between the VINCI Concessions-FAYAT consortium, the Municipality and FC Girondins de Bordeaux.

• A multi-functional stadium with 40,000 seats meeting UEFA EURO 2016 criteria
• A 30-year partnership contract starting on date of availability
• Total construction cost: €166 million
Alain Juppé, mayor of Bordeaux, and Xavier Huillard, Chairman-CEO of VINCI, representing the Stade Bordeaux Atlantique consortium bringing together VINCI Concessions and the FAYAT group, have signed a partnership contract in the presence of Clément Fayat, chairman of FAYAT. The contract, spanning 30 years from the date of commissioning of the facility, covers design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the new Bordeaux stadium, with a capacity of 40,000 places for UEFA EURO 2016.

In parallel, the Municipality and the FC Girondins de Bordeaux football club, in the presence of its Chairman- CEO Jean Louis Triaud and Nicolas de Tavernost, representing M6, the Club's sole shareholder, signed an agreement whereby the Municipality will make the infrastructure available to the club, participate in financing the project via an initial injection of €20 million and thereafter via an annual rental of €3.8 million for 30 years.

The VINCI Concessions-FAYAT consortium, named preferred bidder in July this year, has completed financing of the contract, which represents a total investment of €219 million. The financing package consists of longterm debt of €114 million, without recourse to the shareholders, of a maximum maturity of 32 years, and an equity injection of €10 million, shared equally between the two shareholders. It is supplemented by a total subsidy of €75 million, spread between the State (€28 million), the City of Bordeaux (€17 million), the Aquitaine Region (€15 million) and the Bordeaux Urban Community (€15 million).

VINCI and FAYAT have commissioned the international architects Herzog & de Meuron, which designed the Munich Allianz Arena Stadium and the Beijing Olympic Stadium. The project, located in the Bordeaux Lac neighbourhood, will meet UEFA criteria with a view to hosting Euro 2016 games. It will stand out from other sports stadium thanks to its unusual, almost square shape and will combine sober classicism and transparency, with tall columns holding the "bowl" of the grandstands.

Construction will be entrusted to a consortium of companies consisting of VINCI Construction France, consortium leader, through its subsidiaries GTM Bâtiment Aquitaine-Limousin and Faure Silva, and the FAYAT group, through its companies SEG-FAYAT, Razel et Castel & Fromaget. Upkeep and maintenance of the New Stadium will be entrusted to VINCI Facilities.

Stade Bordeaux Atlantique, a joint subsidiary of VINCI Concessions and FAYAT SA, will handle operation of this multi-functional facility in partnership with FC Girondins de Bordeaux. It will cater to sporting, cultural, musical and corporate events. The operating company will be paid in the form of an annual rental from the Municipality and also through the proceeds of activities from resident club matches. Use of this new stadium as of the 2015-2016 season will allow FC Girondins de Bordeaux to generate resources to ensure its long-term competitiveness.

VINCI Concessions has been operator of the Stade de France under a concession contract since 1998, the MMArena Stadium in Le Mans since 2011 and holds the future operating contract for the Nice Stadium, which will be delivered in 2013. These projects illustrate VINCI's capacity to develop solutions meeting the needs of public authorities in the field of major sports and leisure facilities.

With operations in over 100 countries and 18,000 dedicated employees, FAYAT works in France and throughout the world to provide effective technical solutions in construction and public works, metal structures, electricity and road-building, handling and boiler-making equipment. The Group, whose registered office is in Bordeaux, posted turnover of €2.7 billion in 2010.

FC Girondins de Bordeaux, a professional football club and six-time French champion, became a 99.9% subsidiary of the M6 Group in 1999. With the high – and unique in France – level of its investment in this new stadium project, M6 reaffirms its attachment to the Club and the City of Bordeaux and its firm determination to see FC Girondins de Bordeaux retain its status as one of the key clubs in French football.

I'm confused by one thing. The cross sections posted show 64 rows (32 on bottom, 32 on top) and yet the are only 42,000 places? Is that correct?

Sure seems to. The VIP side of the lower level is substantially smaller, but that still seems like it should give more than 42,000. For reference the Metrodome has 64,121 seats in 69 total rows (36 lower, 2 suite, 31 upper). This stadium seems to have more aisles, but if those sections are accurate it would look to be at least 50,000.
