This motorway links Ecuador's most populous city, Guayaquil, with the beach town of Salinas.

The portion of the Panamerican Highway between Ibarra and Riobamba is known as the "Avenue of the Volcanoes" since many snowed-capped volcanoes like Cayambe, Cotopaxi, Illinizas, Tungurahua, Chimborazo, Altar, etc. can be seen along the sides of the route

This road crosses the Easter Andes range and therefore has a series of tunnels all along its way. The road passes by the infamous Tungurahua active volcano - which forced the closure of air space in all western South America a last month due to ash.

This is the main north-south trunk road in the Ecuadorian coastal region. The road is not by the coastline, but rather somewhat in the middle between the coastline and the western Andes. This route is considered part of the main road system (E25, E20, and E35) connecting Ecuador's two largest cities, Guayaquil and Quito. This route is also the fastest because E25 runs mostly on flat terrain until it reaches Quito's latitude where it connects with E30 and takes it straight up the Andes to finally connect to E35 just south of Quito.

The current government administration has allocated a significant amount of its budget to enlarge, renovate, maintain, and build new transportation infrastructure like roads, railroads, and airports. Also, the most populated provinces (Pichincha and Guayas) have private concessions for the major roads like the E35/Panamerican Highway (which is currently being expanded by PANAVIAL to 6 lanes between Otavalo and Ambato) and the E25/Coastal Trunk Road.

This is a segment of the transverse road linking Ecuador's largest city, Guayaquil (located in the coastal plains), with the third largest city, Cuenca (located in the Interandean Valley). The segment shown here is just east of Guayaquil (looking west towards Duran) in the low plains of the coastal region.

This road was in terrible condition until it was recently repaved in rigid concrete pavement. The road is an alternate to the main E40 and E25 route that connects Guayaquil with Cuenca (see picture above). I can't wait to drive on this road next time I go home!

This section of the E35 / Panamerican Highway is currently being widened by PANAVIAL to three lanes in each direction. This portion of the Panamerican Highway has heavy traffic volumes not only because it connects Ecuador with Colombia but also because it connects the Quito area with the touristy towns of Otavalo, Cotacachi, and Atuntaqui (perfect one day trip from Quito).

This is a small provincial road that accesses the El Cajas National Park just due west of Ecuador's third largest city, Cuenca. The setting of the park is a plateau at a very high altitude (above 4,000m amsl) filled with hundreds of lakes and lagoons from previous glaciations of the mountain summits. I do not know the route numbering of this road for a map of the province of Azuay with its provincial road network route numbering is not available.
