Impressive, but so ugly. Shotcreting such a massive expanse... the risk of landslide must be great.

Google Street View is now available in Ecuador

I must say I'm impressed by the roads there. Neighboring countries are clearly one (or two) steps behind.

Well, 10 years ago it was probably on the same level. Over the last 10 years most infrastructure has improved quite a bit, not just roads.

An eight-lane highway. Location unknown, probably near Quito given the landscape.

of course! Glory to socialism!

I wonder why they put the barriers so far apart though... they could have given generous shoulders instead of narrow ones...

That is the Latacunga's by-pass, part of the Panamericana Highway. Around 80 kms south of Quito.

E35

A 57 kilometer stretch of road that bypasses Quito to the east was inaugurated on 5 April, from Colibrí south of Quito via Pifo to Santa Rosa de Cusubamba north of Quito.

Google Earth imagery as recent as 2016 suggests that only the southern part from Colibrí to Pifo was upgraded to a multi-lane highway. A segment around Pifo was built on a new alignment with motorway features.
