Of the names you posted, I've only been in C&A, H&M, and IKEA. Isn't C&A just a big clothing store? H&M is definitely a clothing store, not a department store. IKEA isn't a department store either, it's a furniture store.

Is Zara a department store in Mexico? Here in Canada, they're just a clothing store.

Not a country, but in HK, Japanese department store are common

Sogo

Seibu

Jusco

There is also Mitsukoshi but is temporarily closed. Then there was Daimaru, Yaohan and Matsuzakaya both are now closed.

High end local based stores are also common such as Lane Crawford.

Other local based department stores for the common market would be Wing On

Watsons use to have large department stores.

Other International smaller chains would be Marks N Spencer and H&M

People are getting stores/brands confused with Department Stores. Dept Stores are stores which sell a broad range of products and generally have their own brand-named items; i.e. the Bay in Canada, El Corte Ingles in Spain, Macy's in the US etc.

Zara, H&M, Ikea ... while all international stores, focus on one thing and aren't "department" stores per se.

You're right... But does it alos count when a store sells like 3 types of things, like clothing, multimedia and toys, could you call that a departement store? Lots of the chains I posted only sell a few different things... only a few are real department stores I guess....

In the Netherlands you have three department-stores-chains

Since 1870, 12 stores nationwide

De Bijenkorf is only situated in the larger dutch cities. It is the most expensive department store.

Since 1887, 62 stores nationwide

Vroom & Dreesmann is situated in middle large cities.

since 1926, 500 stores in north-west Europe

Hema is not so expensive, it has a young, modern and trendy imago. Hema is located in every city and has smaller departments at the larger railwaysstations. Hema has departments in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany and Luxemburg.

El Hema (Arabic style department in Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam)
