I was in Naples last year and I was completely disappointed. These photos are authentic oasis. I still can not believe a superb country like Italy or even entire Europe can accommodate an city with so much potential but yet so decadent, dirty so frumpy.

San Domenico Maggiore monastic complex.
Great environments, as wished by the prior Ruffo di Bagnara.

This map shows the greatness of the complex

In the dining hall I was astonished by the frescos those, ideally, continue the perspective of the big room.

This is a fresco of the last dinner of Jesus Christ. The guide explained me that this is the result of three phases of painting in the time. The first phase is the main scene and the two groups of columns; the second one is the crucifixion in the bottom; the last one is in the low left corner, where a part of the painting was lost and repainted.

Here you are the adding.

The opposite wall is painted with the most important moment in the life of San Tommaso: the dialogue with the cross.

Some ancient elements located in the wall.

Chapter room, the most beautiful one in the convent.

Here is showed the chapter of the passion of Christ.

The most suggestive room is the cell of San Tommaso.

Fontanelle graveyard, one of the most ancient ones. This is one of the biggest ossuaries that I know. It was constituted during the 17th century pestilence in a greek cave of tuff.

Some pics from Ercolano
