I was on Gaoloumi.com yesterday and saw that the main tower plot has indeed started. Cranes ans machinery were on site and the plot was concreted over. So it won't belong till this is over in the U/C section. Btw they said the 3 side towers are 172m tall.

Wanda East Port Project (thread now closed) are the lit up in the background, you can see the smaller towers of this project in the foreground.

How is this tolerated... if we can regulate our environmental protections in our messy American democratic system, surely it ought to be easy for the Chinese government to quickly impose strict environmental regulations... is there just ZERO political will to do so?)

What is the long-term benefit to China's development if the entire eastern half of the country is an uninhabitable toxic wasteland in ten years??? What future is that for China?

1) The first picture at the top of this page shows a picture of this very spot with clear skies. You can see the highrises that are 5-10 miles away across the dalianwan.

2) That is not actually smog in the photo you quoted, it's fog.

3) The yellow dust Munwon mentioned is really interesting. Check it out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_Dust
