Currently, the plaza is only open until 8:30 PM. I hope this is temporary.

I've been looking at the webcam very late at night, and I can see people. I believe that time was for the previous setup when it was blocked off.

Went by the site tonight to check it out for the first time after they removed the surrounding fences. I was initially worried about the 8:30pm "closing time" but they weren't enforcing it (and rightfully so).

Great pics! You are right, after 13 years of being unable to freely walk across the WTC plaza to just get to the other side, I would expect them not to enforce it. It would be wrong if they did.

I think it's because the museum is opened 24/7 until the 21st of this month, which is when it opens to the public. After that point, the plaza may close in tandem with the museum, but I hope that's not the case. I understand if they have to restrict access to the fountains after a certain time, but the plaza should be opened at least until midnight, or whenever most NYC parks close, if not 24/7 (ideal).

From pics I see on SSC I think it is a wonderful memorial to all those lost, and the WTC that was lost but those who visit, pausing, looking into the two waterfall fountains of the footprints of the twin towers...gaze up and imagine once upon a time two 110 story towers filled that air...alive with business, electronics, computers, phonecalls, faxes, a coffee, a chat...a bunch of flowers or a birthday card...and people, lots of people...

The museum is officially open for business today. You can see a long line of people waiting to get in.

Someone had an extra ticket and I went by this morning for the public grand opening... It's a very well thought-out museum, and one that leaves you very emotional. Its pretty amazing!!

Here are just a few snippets of what what's there... There's loads to explore there!

Very saddening to see the possessions of someone lost on that day. This particular picture caught my attention when i noticed on his UK driving licence his address was: Canton street, Southampton... about a 5 minute walk from where i live! It'll be quite eery now walking past the end of that street.

Pretty amazing that the wallet survived if he was a passenger on one of the planes

I was wondering if he was a passenger, but you can just about make out from his description he had business on the 100th floor.
