Between the memorial and the train center, this already is one of the greatest urban locales in the world, and it's still a work in progress.

The landscaping on West St is stunning. BPC, which is now better than ever, is now connected to the rest of downtown, whereas it used to be isolated when West St was a highway, rather than a tree-lined boulevard.

I may sound ignorant here, but what's the significance/point of it?

America's Response Monument
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America...ponse_Monument

Quote:
The sculpture America's Response Monument subtitled De Oppresso Liber, is a life-and-a-half scale bronze statue in front of One World Trade Center, across from Ground Zero in New York City.

Unofficially known as the Horse Soldier Statue, it is the first public monument dedicated to the United States Special Forces and commemorates the servicemen and women of America’s Special Operations response to 9/11, including those who fought in the early days of Operation Enduring Freedom, which led to the initial defeat of the Taliban in Afghanistan.

It was conceived by a private citizen, sculptor Douwe Blumberg, and commissioned by an anonymous group of Wall Street bankers who lost friends in the 9/11 attacks. It was dedicated on November 11, 2011 in a ceremony led by Vice President Joe Biden and Lt. Gen. John Mulholland, commander of U.S. Army Special Operations Command.

Thanks. Pisses me off that "article" called WTC ground zero...

That name better stop being used once Tower 1 and the Transit Hub opens.

Seriously, even the Hiroshimans stopped calling their city ground zero long ago.

According to my documents, Community Board 1 (CB1) is "looking for a resolution to keep 9/11 Memorial open 24/7". This is specifically referring to the plaza portion.

Am I seeing this right? Ever since the museum's completion it always looked like a few panels of glass (by the corner of the white thing) were never put in. Also wasn't there supposed to be gravel (looks like it from the renderings) on the flat part of the roof where there's no glass?

I noticed that too. It still hasn't been fully completed yet. During the construction of the pavillion I remember that they only worked for a couple of weeks on that roof and then they let it rest for a couple of months before resuming work.

Oh and those are not glass panels by the way. They are are some kind of iron mesh panels, the same ones as on the west vent structures.

Speaking of those west vent structures, are they ever going to complete the roof cladding on the north one? It hasn't been changed for over a couple of years now. Also there are still two trees missing directly in between those structures, so maybe they are planning some remaining work to be done there.

I thought that North vent structure had some roof damage during Sandy. It was fine before the storm.

The north vent structure has had those panels missing (or out of place) for nearly three years. I made this post on Oct 20, 2012, which was more than a week before Sandy hit:
