The memorial was open until Midnight last night instead of 9 PM and was very busy, but not completely filled. It is so big that you could move around easily. The tribute lights are still on at 3:30 am and will remain on until sunrise.

All of these and more are on my blog,

Can you enter/exit the plaza via the southeast corner near WTC4?

Why is downtown so dark? It should be brighter...

In a perfect, perfect world the tribute lights would be in the exact spots of the towers/ in the pools; it would look even more spectacular at night, reminiscing the impact of the original towers when you looked up right between them. Also, it would be perfect if they were lit up every night...

But that's just in a utopia.

I think the tribute lights should rise from the memorial footprint fountains but only used on 9/11 anniversaries...give or take a few days...To all those who look at pictures or news of this, those who live across the USA or the world make a visit here something you must do...Standing in New York gazing skyward at those beams rising into the night sky is remarkable and humbling...unforgettable.

Inner Lower Manhattan is predominantly office buildings and generally not busy at street level outside working hours. Street lights are probably adequate for such but times like this make it seem gloomy. On 9/11/2007 I spent hours wandering around late finding vantage points to take pics of the beams. One point I was laying beside ( to take a pic ) Washington’s Statue on Wall st and except for a cop outside the Stock Exchange the streets were empty.

In a perfect, perfect world, 9/11 would've never happened.

More progress in the Northeast corner. Slowly but surely transitioning that space from a work site to the memorial plaza...

Yep the moved the tool/work sheds so I'm assuming they are getting ready to complete the entire plaza, and hopefully open it soon after....

Yes...finally they've moved those sheds (containers) off the plaza. Hopefully now the plaza can be 100% finished...once and for all!

Looks like the last part of the memorial plaza will be complete very soon, they been doing a good amount of work on it lately. Also, isn't it funny that after all these years the Trade Center side of west street is the completed and beautiful side and now WFC side is taking 100 years to finish.

I do believe this delay had to do with the realignment of West Street. WFC needed to wait for the roadway to be shifted back to its current alignment.

That could be it. They are already a year behind schedule though, and I've heard they aren't in any rush anyway. Either way I can't wait to see it finished, both sides are going to really compliment each other.

Expect the entire northeast section of the plaza to open sometime in the near future. The new fence-line will run right behind the bollards along Greenwich and Fulton streets. All the cement is poured, and half of it is already paved.

01/04/15 Happy New Year everyone. What's the deal with the North Pool being down again this weekend? Seems as though they have been having a lot of downtime with the North Pool for some time now. Can anyone elaborate as to why?

It's because it gets windy over there and they want to prevent the water from going onto the people visiting, especially during the cold winter months. It's not that windy by the South Pool, which is why it has remained on...

This area will be stunning when it's done. Even apart from the towers, the memorial, train station, and landscaping on West St are stunning.
