I'm planning to go in December '11. I don't have high hopes on the experience, but I want to go and see it in person asap. I was at the WTC in August '08 and it was so chaotic. Especially around 4WTC's end. You couldn't believe all the noise. Trucks, buses, taxis, police cars, people, all trying to get around that intersection.

One of the reasons I don't want the Performing Arts Center on the Deutsche Bank site is that it would just add more construction and continue to block access to the Memorial. As soon as that building is down they need to go like gang busters on the VSC and finish the Liberty Park plaza area. I just can't imagine millions of visitors crossing over the southern West Street bridge to get into the Memorial. Its going to be a mess.

from www.lowermanhattan.info

*The following information was last updated on November 19, 2010.

* Steel erection for the Memorial pavilion building nearly complete
* Soil installation and tree planting underway in phases through 2011. More than 50 trees now on site
* The north fountain testing
* Preparing for cladding installation on new West Vent Structures

Anybody an idea how the cladding of the Vent Structures will look like? At least no longer the bare concrete will be exposed.. at the moment the buildings look horrible, can only get better!

I believe the tops will be stainless steel or aluminum. The renders aren't very clear, but I'd guess some stone or granite along the outer walls.

Now that's surprising, I think I read somewhere that tree planting is finished for 2010 and would not continue before spring.. anyway, they have enough holes to fill!

Most excellent.

I noticed that the "bird's nest" pattern is different from all the renders on the first page. Also, the roof will probably be quite different than the renders.

Holy crap! That thing is unreal. Here is a larger pic:

I'm not surprised they are planting more trees this year. Progress on the plaza has been lightning fast over the last four weeks or so.

I doubt that they could drive that monster onto the plaza, it would probably fall right through. OTOH they could park it on West Street and it could reach all the way across.
