A little after 6 am last week, the 9/11 Memorial was closed, but you can get close on Greenwich, by 4 WTC.. A nice autumn view of the Memorial... It was so quiet, I could hear the water falling from where I was standing...

It might have been closed for Veterans' Day services?

Hello!

I would like to know what's the final size of the trees? Will they grow a lot yet, compared to actual size?

It would be nice to see some sort of diagram or any drawing that shows the actual size and final size.

Thanks.

Look at some of the renderings of the site and you'll get an idea. Ultimately, (and it has already started to happen with the older trees on the site) they will form kind of a continuous canopy of shade, much like a forest.

I don't think there is a final size, as long as they can survive disease, wind, ice, lightning, humans, etc., and are properly cared for. Maybe 250+ years from now a few will look like this:

Quote:
In 2007, the tree was measured to be 55 feet high, the trunk 52.5 inches in diameter and the spread of the branches – called the drip line – 97 feet across.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburb...924-story.html

Quote:
Crews selected and harvested trees from within a 500-mile radius of the World Trade Center site, with additional ones coming from locations in Pennsylvania and near Washington, D.C. (Maryland), areas impacted on September 11, 2001.

Swamp white oaks (Quercus bicolor) were picked because of their durability and leaf color. In fall, the leaf color ranges from amber to a golden brown – and sometimes pink. The trees can grow to reach heights as tall as 60 feet in conditions similar to those on the plaza. The trees will never be identical, growing at different heights and changing leaves at different times, a physical reminder that they are living individuals.

I doubt that there is enough space for the root system of a tree of that size. There might also be constraints on the weight, although I don't think the maximum design loads of the memorial steel deck have been made public.
