There's a pretty big crane at the South end of the plaza putting in trees today. I don't think it's an LTM11200 but it may well be one of these:
http://www.liebherr.com/AT/en-GB/pro...sure-nonMetric which is almost as big.

The crane they were using last week had six axles (maybe a LTM 1250-6.1 or 1350-6.1). They could have switched to something bigger today.

From last week:

In the first pic here it is parked in the foreground: (There's a telescopic crane extended in the background, but they weren't planting in that area at the time.)

Yeah, I'd be afraid that 9-axle monster would fall through the plaza floor.

Last weeks crane was a 1250. Todays crane is a 1500 with wings (superlift), over kill much??? I wonder if a luffer will be added to get those trees to the north?

The only company to own a 1350 in the 5 boroughs is Cranes INC out of Queens, they just bought 2 of them.

A 11200? There is only 1 of them in the US at the time. Its setting windmills farms at a undisclosed location out west for the army.

The crane in zippy's first pic on post 1275 is probably 150-200 ton

What they should have done is forget the little saplings from the tree nursery in NJ. Instead, scour the region for the best mature trees (65+ feet tall), dig 'em up with a Big Shovel or a Big Digger, transport each to the site using a Super Duper Trailer, and finally set them in place with a pair of 31000's.

Thanks for the update, 325ccr.

The MEMO Blog
December 21, 2010

Coming into view: The primary steel of the glass atrium of the 9/11 Memorial Museum Pavilion gives the four-story structure a signature look. Last week, the building was topped off, marking the completion of the installation of structural steel. In the coming months, the so-called curtain wall will help define the pavilion’s shape. The pavilion will serve as an entryway to the museum, which opens in 2012 at bedrock at the World Trade Center site.

The plaza is a winter wonderland. I hope the local photographers/media can get some surreal pictures of the trees in the snow (especially at night).

I wonder if they'll string Christmas lights on the trees once the Plaza opens to the public. That would be rather festive, but maybe a little over the top for a place that's supposed to be "reflective". But if they bothered to spruce up 1WTC like they have right now, who knows.
