oli83 has it right...why put such large steel beams to carry this flimsy screen ? We wait with anticipation....

Maybe the steel frames are there to pull the screens tight? I agree they look okay when they're kept taut instead of being slack.

Someone from WNY said that there are strong gusts from the wind tunnel created along West Street, so the extra strength would make sure that the screens are well tethered. It was also mentioned by someone else that, because of the space between the concrete structure and the screen, this would allow for interesting lighting effects.

We shall see...

CNN just ran a segment about the 9/11 memorial and museum, and boy, I really wish these morons would get their facts straight before they lie on international TV. The CNN news anchor kept saying that the plan is to charge $20-$25 dollars for visitors to visit the memorial. She initially said the $25 was to get into the museum (which is the case), but then her and her guest both kept saying what an outrage it is that visitors will have to pay to visit the memorial and that the memorial should be free. IT IS, STUPID!

Her guest then said that the museum sells t-shirts and she flips out and says, "WAIT, they're planning on selling T-SHIRTS at the 9/11 museum???" I've heard of no such plans. The guest was probably thinking of the temporary visitor center down the street.

update by morrongiello on flickr

the area between the pools needs some more trees, then the construction site-look is disappearing, at least when both pools are running..

I don't know if this is what will be the final product, but I'm likin' the way the water looks in the bottom of the pool while it's running. The white-ish/blu-ish effect from the air bubbles is kinda cool.

The posts I outlined in the photo below clearly say to me that some sort of prefabricated curtain wall (similar to the pavilions curtain wall and how it was installed) will be done here as well as they clearly stick out further than the rest of the frame. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Actually, I was just thinking today (when looking at the webcam from atop WTC7) that the memorial still looks way, way more like a construction site than I would have possibly ever thought it would be by the 10th anniversary. It's entirely surrounded by construction on three of its four sides, and even the section of the memorial along West Street will not be completed by the 10th anniversary, I believe. It's highly unlikely that they'll have any of the area west of the vent structures completed in 2 months time (there's no real reason for them to, anyway, but it's also impossible because they have to wait for the final re-alignment of west street, which won't be for years). Also it looks to me like their plan is to keep the "hatch" west of the north pool (bottom left of morongiello's pic) open for the next year (to lower equipment and stuff like the firetruck and north tower antenna into the museum), so probably it'll just be a narrow path west of the north pool open.

ultimately, there will be continued construction on all 4 sides.

I agree that the construction around will still be visible for the next years, but the plaza itself (and the pavilion) is getting closer to completion day by day

In the last quarterly report they said:

"This timing was made available by construction of a temporary loading opening in the Memorial Plaza deck that can be quickly closed in the 3rd Quarter to enable final Memorial Plaza finishes to be constructed in that area."

So maybe they are going to close that hole before 9/11. Anyway, a new quarterly report is long overdue..
btw new slideshow available on http://www.panynj.gov/wtcprogress/index.html

I feel blessed living in an age of technology where having visited this site before and after 9/11 I can see it's life growing day by day............even if I live about as far away as you can be still on Earth.
