The Coriolis effect has no influence on this scale. For more information see here for instance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coriolis_effect

"Perhaps the most commonly encountered rotating reference frame is the Earth. Because the Earth completes only one rotation per day, the Coriolis force is quite small, and its effects generally become noticeable only for motions occurring over large distances and long periods of time, such as large-scale movement of air in the atmosphere or water in the ocean."

These swirls etc. have/had a different origin in my opinion, having to do with the different sides of the waterfall. If one waterfall is a little bit stronger than the other than you see these curved currents where the two streams hit each other. At least that's my explanation..

Also the wind. If it's blowing a little harder (on average) across one half of the pool than the other half, that would impart a slight spin.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are intentionally using very dirty water at this stage in order to test that the pumps and filters can handle worst-case scenarios of dirt and dust (even ash) being blown into the pools. Once they are finished with the south pool they will drain and power wash it too, then hopefully use much cleaner water for the opening.

wow amazing pics! looks like everything is coming along nicely. I like how even the design of lamps in the memorial plaza resemble the design of the twins.

Great pictures. Love the shots showing the "submarine hatch" that RKOwens4 mentioned.

Testing the lights in the south pool:

Yes, they are sprinkler heads for the irrigation system.

I also can't wait to see those lights. I think they will remind people of the "Tribute in Light" but less bright obviously.

It'll be even more beautiful when they light the center void. The brightness might be a bit exaggerated (compared to what you'd see with the naked eye) since the webcam probably has a long exposure at night.

They are putting down asphalt at the southwest corner. Must be temporary since there will be another row or two of tree going next West St. eventually, I believe.

Wow! those lights are amazing one of the best memorials in the world and a excellent tribute to those lost on 9/11 and the twin towers themselves.
