It looks like they're working on the north pool tonight, are they painting it?

On tuesday 9/11 2007 I had spent the early and morning hours at Ground Zero and was on my way to the Battery and a huge downpour of rain caused me to detour to a sheltered doorway in sight of the Sphere sculpture.....I hope this sculpture takes it's place at the memorial.( Liberty Park ? ).....it was part of the Original WTC and survived almost intact with two 110 story towers collapsing around it !

Are they going to finish putting in all the grass at the plaza before opening? Because if so they have alot of grass to lay down in 10 days.

I think that would be the easy part.

Excellent comparison shots. It'll be great to add a 4th one once 1 WTC is complete.

It's crazy how many buildings in addition to the WTC have been built in the last decade. The 'gap' has been filled from certain angles for a long time now.

Paris to commemorate the 9/11 bombings

Hello guys!

While in the metro (french Tube) this morning, I read an article coming from a free daily paper saying this:

Quote:
11 September

A replica of the Twin Towers

The association The French will never forget (TFWNF) will commemorate the 9/11 bombings by edifying a replica of the Twin Towers on the Droits de l'Homme square in Paris' 16th arrondissement. The first tower will be covered in names of the victims and the second one will display the support messages received worldwide. A laser lighting scheme coming from both towers are to illuminate the Eiffel Tower. According to some diplomat, quoted by Reuters, it will actually be 'the most important solidarity event in the world'.
I'll try to take some pictures...

Source : "20 minutes"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

To give you an idea, here's a couple of drawings which they released:

The Twin Towers will be 25 meters tall. To open the ceremony, 70 kids will bring the biggest US & French flags in the World (designed especially on that occasion). There will be a free gig too...

For those understanding french a bit, here's an article ----> http://www.lecourrierdelarchitecte.com/article_2110

I'm looking forward to it .

I don't get you patrick...what's wrong about this replica? What's missing, the antennas? Let me remind you that the aim of that commemoration isn't to display a replica as faithfull/tall as the original towers! If you look at the drawings closely, you'll see (perhaps) that the Twin Towers form a giant '11' figure, admit that with the antennas, it would have ruined that effect...

Otherwise, just know that the 'Frogs' are far from being 'ignorant', think twice in the future before 'criticizing' for free. A word to the wise...

I'll try my best to go to the Trocadéro so I can take a few pics, but there will certainly be loads of journalists on the spot as well, so I guess you guys will easily find pics/videos on the internet, It will be impossible to miss it I think .

PS: in 2007, 2500 people had already formed a human chain on Omaha Beach in Normandy, one of the 5 beaches of the american 'Débarquement' on 6 June 1944 during WWII.

You can see in the background the US Cemetery where thousands of brave soldiers have been resting...Those 4 words say it all.

The memorial area is amazing it's like a green paradise! It's seems to have the perfect atmosphere for those who will be remembering their family and friends. This is a beautiful memorial, and is what all innocent who died in this cruel attack deserve. God bless them all

Well the road is eventually going to shift over with just one line of trees between it and the chiller plant so the passes must be temporary. They are probably just for while they have limited access to the memorial.

Good news, people: The Tribute in Light art installation will make its presence this anniversary.

On the rooftop of a parking garage in Lower Manhattan, about 30 electricians, stagehands and lighting technicians are setting up what is now an annual tradition: shifting 88 searchlights into position to create the the now-iconic "Tribute in Light."

On September 11, the skyline will be joined by two powerful beams of light, a piece of public art that pays tribute to the losses of 9/11.

The "Tribute in Light" began as a temporary installation in March 2002, but has become a yearly tradition.

The Municipal Arts Society, which funds the project, has begun asking for donations online to help continue funding the project. Michael Ahearn, one of the creators of the lights, said he is confident the exhibition will continue for several more years.

The blue beams, which are reported to be visible for 60 miles, are comprised of 88 separate 7,000-watt searchlights, which are powered by a gas-run generator housed in a tractor trailer just outside of the parking garage.

The New York City Audubon Society has noted that the powerful lights can disrupt migratory bird patterns, and Ahern said they will be monitoring the exhibit and will periodically shut off the lights, so birds can continue on their migratory routes.

The searchlights remain in the parking garage when not in use.

The lights still need to be calibrated or "perpendicularly integrated," so New Yorkers may be able to see some lights on Saturday night, and again on Tuesday night. On September 11, they will be fully in place.
