About the fountains, I saw some footage of them on Dutch tv. You'll be surprised about the noise those two fountains produce....

Not anything to do with the build by the New York Times posted 114 never heard audiofragments from that day.

Needless to say this is very moving.

Are the fountains the correct footprint of the two buildings or are they smaller than that, and as such just a symbolic presence?

We have a winner.

For those new here, this is the link to the KPI TV web cams. And this is the link to the HD Earthcam. There will probably be lots of new visitors to this thread over the next few days with all the media attention the memorial will be getting across the world. Hopefully the cams will keep working and the servers won't get overloaded.

The pools will not faithfully recreate the tower's outline, and not necessarily are centered within the footprints. The first square is 176', followed by an 8' wide parapet including bronze panels at the very edge of the pools, which makes them 192' in total, compared with the 211' 10" footprint. The inner void is a 40-foot square. Although the pools are ~30% smaller than the original footprints (not counting the parapets) , the line of trees that surround each pools form another square that mark the dimensions of the towers, they measure 210'.

I'm curious as to why they laid down sod in one area of the memorial. Looks odd since it's only in one small area.

I had the same doubt. Thanks!

What an amazing image from last night, with the lit pools, illuminated tridents, Tribute in Light, and 1WTC in red/white/blue.
