If it's returning to the site, the only place where it could rely on is at Liberty Park; all major artifacts for the museum have been already lowered and all temporary gaps closed.

The Sphere should have been put back into the same spot. Yes, it does remind people of the attacks but surely that will always be the case anywhere that site?

There are some new white lines marked on the floor, west of the vents.. best visible in the second view of the KPI TV cam (from 2 WFC). Could be for lines of trees and bike lane(s) and/or pedestrian walk.. as soon as the three northbound lanes are shifted west (which should happen pretty soon) hopefully they start with the landscaping work in this part

Weeklong West Street Lane Closures Start July 7th

To facilitate ongoing construction, the state Department of Transportation plans to temporarily reduce West Street (Route 9A) traffic lanes for one week, starting Saturday, July 7th at 1 a.m. Between Vesey and West Thames Streets, two lanes of both northbound and southbound West Street will be closed overnight on both Saturday and Sunday, from approximately 1 a.m. to late morning. Then starting Sunday night, July 8th through Friday, July 13th, single-lane closures will be in place overnight, and midday during non-peak traffic hours (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.)

Lanes also will be reduced on West Street between Vesey and Chambers Street on the same days, though the hours of the double-lane closures will be reduced to 10 p.m. to midnight each weekend day, and approximately 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weeknights.

The double-lane closures allow SDOT crews to set up a new, temporary traffic pattern in the World Trade Center vicinity. Upon completion, the West Street traffic lanes (three lanes each direction) will shift east, allowing the Port Authority to continue its construction of the east-west connector pedestrian tunnel under West Street.

In addition, SDOT crews continue to close one lane of both north- and southbound Battery Park Underpass on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for renovation work.

SDOT crews also remain at work rebuilding the state highway as part of the West Street Promenade Segment 2 project.

I agree, but I think that spot is at the very back corner of the museum building. I think it would be ok to be a few feet off, and that location is pretty good for it. Oli83's picture above shows the location almost perfectly: right where the orange lift is.

And then Oli83's picture disappears....

I was hoping that they finish it until the next anniversary, but now I'm quite skeptical that they manage it until then. However, at least some progress in the surrounding area. And they finally started laying out the pavers on top of the pavilion!

Is there a list for which artifacts will be in the 9/11 museum?

It will be nice when the landscaped median is added to this stretch of West Streeet.

The names of Squad 252 are to the right of that heading. There are also headings for the four flight numbers, the two towers and the pentagon, among others.

Every single name is inscribed in the bronze nameplates, arranged firstly according to their location during the attack, then company/designation/role, and lastly relationships with people close to them.

See here for more details:
