No. They have 3 types now. Also a few others that were used for testing. The stop column shows the stop (usually A through K) where the bus stops. As I said, this is used at bigger bus stations.

As tomorrow is National Day of Construction the North/South Line sites will be opened to the public yet again. Here are the latest public transport updates:

12 March

GVB has contracted Holland Shipyards to build new electric-diesel hybrid ferries for service to Amsterdam-Noord. They're the same model as the current ones, except for the hybrid propulsion system and slightly longer length and thus increased capacity.

24 April

The renovation works on the East Line have commenced at Holendrecht station. Step one is do undo all the formerly bare concrete stations of the paint that has been put on them in the past and remove the old lifts and open up the lift shafts.

29 April

Design of the 2 bus station canopies at Noord station.

2 May

Amalia Pica, the artist of the De Pijp station artwork, flew over from London to see the intermediate results of her design in the flesh. The work is a blow-up aquarelle mural that's incorporated into the glass walls and is meant to represent the colors of the diverse neighbourhood seeping down the walls.

12 May

Time-lapse of the Noorderpark canopy construction.

13 May

The apartments on top of the De Pijp station entrances are almost ready from the outside.

24 May

No glass yet, but they're already installing the lighting on the Noord canopy.

Glass and installations being placed at Noorderpark. Visually and construction-wise they resemble the Utrecht Centraal canopies quite a bit.

I love how the lift shafts look encorporated into the wall. Very unfortunate how the glass wall panels seem to be curved and making shadows though.

They've implemented the "stop columns" display on the Johan Huizingalan stop, which doesn't make any sense for me... as there's only 1 stop platform there.

Worse, the displays differ on each side of the street... the other one being the regular new one.

Tram line #24 has been discontinued (or at least I saw signs indicating its stops removed).

Amsterdam North-South Line delayed again
Wednesday, July 13, 2016

THE Municipality of Amsterdam confirmed on July 8 that the metro North-South Line will open on July 22 2018, 16 years after the start of construction on the troubled project

Technical issues during construction and the bankruptcy of several key contractors have caused the opening to be pushed back from October 2017

Mercedes-Benz autonomous bus uses CityPilot technology to travel a route straight into the future

The Mercedes-Benz city bus of the future — appropriately called Future Bus — completed a milestone journey that showcased how its CityPilot autonomous driving technology can help it successfully navigate a complicated urban route.

The 20-km, or roughly 12-mile, journey took the bus along a route in the Netherlands that links Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport with the town of Haarlem. The challenge for the Future Bus included numerous bends, passes through tunnels and across intersections with traffic lights.

Although a Daimler video does show a driver at the wheel, he never touches it as the bus goes through its paces via technology that allows it to recognize obstacles, especially pedestrians, in the road and brake autonomously. It also approaches bus stops automatically, where it opens and closes its doors, according to the company.

Just under a dozen cameras scan the road and surroundings, while long and short-range radar systems constantly monitor the route ahead. There is also a GPS system. The bus’s sleek exterior is only matched by its futuristic interior, as this is definitely not the public transportation you’re used to.

CityPilot is based on the technology of the autonomously driving Mercedes-Benz Actros truck with Highway Pilot, which was presented two years ago.

Daimler has a strong connection to the Pacific Northwest with its Daimler Trucks North America headquartered out of Portland, Ore. The company recently opened a state-of-the art new 9-story HQ building on Swan Island.

As part of the renovations a new footbridge has been constructed between the two platforms at Van der Madeweg station. The canopies will be extended.

What will happen with the Tramlines?

Will they still exist beside the metrotunnel?

Some lines will change and some of the parallel lines will be rerouted, the east-west routes will become more frequent.

CAF trams are quite good, GVB made a good choice. They also have had a better recent track record of delivering orders in time (compared to Alstom and Siemens).

Well, that's partially true. Less tramlines will pass through Central Station, thus being connected to other lines. For example trams from all the way in the west of Amsterdam will merge with trams from all the way in the east, passing a metrostation of either the already existing Eastline or the coming North-Southline. That so people who lose their direct connection with Central Station get a fast altnernative. So in total maybe a line or 2 will dissapear, but the same number of trams will keep running, if not some more.

This would work even better... if they build a Isolatorweg <=> Amsterdam CS subway/metro link allowing more connections to the central station.

Other than that, changes are welcomed, there is heavy tram congestion in the N-S major routes, which slows down tram service throughout the city.
