How would they pass there then if their value is that high?

me like Anonemus.

Sports Fashion Brand Uses Philippines as Jump-off Point for SEA

September 26, 2011, 3:29am

http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/335630...poff-point-sea

MANILA, Philippines — In an aggressive move to dominate the global market, Italian sportswear brand Ellese has teamed up with the Primer Group of Companies to steer its entry into leading countries in the Southeast Asian region.

“We are very committed to a strategy whereby we have set up offices in the Americas, Europe, and Asia,” says Ellesse Global Managing Director Mike Stropworth. “We have invested in a Hong Kong-based team, and have a strong presence in Japan and South Korea, and will launch in China next year. (Southeast Asia market) is controlled out of Manila through Primer.”

Available in 54 different countries, Ellesse’s recent partnership with the local retail distributor makes the brand available in the Philippines for the first time. Stores are opening locally this year, while shops in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan will open within the next two years.

Rich heritage

Founded in Italy in 1959 by Mr. Leonardo Servadio, noted Italian sportswear brand Ellesse, has been providing premium apparel and footwear to recreational and professional athletes alike for over 50 years. Named after the founder’s initials, “L” / “S”, Ellesse is known worldwide as an authentic Italian sportswear brand with rich sporting heritage, specifically in ski and tennis. Over the years, the likes of Boris Becker, Chris Evert, Guillermo Vilas, Marc Girardelli, Jean-Luc Cretier, Muhammad Ali, Maurice Cheeks and Brigitte Nielsen have all been associated with the brand.

“Ellesse is based on the notion of style infused into sportswear,” explains Stopworth. “Ellesse creates high quality products you can wear both on and off the court…the brand is the essence of Italian style. Many of the other sportswear providers focus on the harder side of sports…winning and getting sweaty, while we’re focused on looking good while playing…equally on the styling of the product as the function.”

Being such, Ellesse’s target market are individuals between the ages of 20 to 30 years old. “The brand appeals equally to both males and females. Targets are fresh grads who take pride in what they wear and want to look good even when they exercise—recreational athletes. We target the upper-middle-class as we provide a high quality, premium product that’s still accessible and affordable—and in no way do our products limit performance.”

Hello, Asia

The foray into Asia was a natural progression of the brand’s business model’s evolution, from subsidiary and distribution, to licensing.

“Asia has always been a big part of our long term strategy,” shares Stopworth. The Philippines, particularly, bodes well as a jump off point for the brand’s entry into Asia. “The brand is right for the Philippines…This is an exciting market with a good mix of designer stores you’ll find in any country, right down to local retailers.”

Unlike other big name brands, Ellesse opened its first free-standing store in Southeast Asia not in Metro Manila, but in Davao City. The second one will rise in Alabang by end-2011, and the third in Fort Bonifacio by the first quarter of 2012.

“The plans are to have nine freestanding store open nationwide in the Philippines within the next two years,” Stopworth reveals. “Stores will be stylized. It will not be overtly Italian with flags hanging everywhere though when you enter, it will be distinctly Italian. It will exude class and quality. Stores will be slick and polished. Shoppers will have a premium shopping experience in a sports boutique, as opposed to a sports store.”

Ellesse is exclusively distributed by the Primer Group of Companies. For additional information, please visit: www.primergrp.com.

Filipino shoppers: Hoarders or shopaholics?
Quote:
Filipino women are either shopaholics or hoarders. Being in the retail business, I often have the opportunity to observe shopping habits of women. I have seen them go berserk when retailers slash down prices, and fight tooth and nail for designer bags at half price as well as clothes that are about to be last season’s remnants.

In the category of fashion, I truly understand the need to buy a bag at 50 percent off. But the urge to shop for a good bargain isn't just confined to those women who do lunch. All Filipino women are serious shoppers—get in their way and you could be physically hurt.

Nako that is sooo true. S&R would text and announce their sale periods some weeks before and people are already preparing for it. Come sale day, people would already line up outside the door. There are so many people that employees and security guards had to employ crowd control techniques to prevent untoward incident. And its like this from the start of the sale day till the end. Grabe and it take hours of waiting in line before reaching the checkout counters. But i ve to giv it to S&R kasi pag sale sila, sale talaga maraming mura, maraming specials. Not many people know this but a lot of vendors in the wet market source their dress chickens at s&r. Its mura talaga by 20-30 pesos per kilo sometimes.
