A link to MOTAT would be to link two dead-end lines and create a unique PT link from Wynard and through the inner-west suburbs

Start that link in 2012 and have it done by 2013. Give things a rest and watch patronage grow, and start the Britomart stage in 2014, to be done by 2015 at the same time as Te Wero.

Then its on to St Helliers.......
Then up Queen Street and out to Dominion Road and Kingsland.

The permanent Te Whero bridge is designed to carry trams to Britomart, there is already plans to link with motat and there has also been talk of a link to st heelers and perhaps a line up dominion rd.

This is clearly going to be extended much further across the city. With all of the work in the wynyard area, this was the best place to start "phase 1". Get over it.
Really, I can't find any info from the Council stating that this is only phase one of a much larger network, all I can see from the council info is the possibility of linking to Britomart, I can't see anything from them about linking to MOTAT and the Zoo, that appears to be a pipe dream from tram enthuasists. I would also bet that any addition s to this tram will only go ahead if this test track is successful, I'm saying there is no way this will be, it doesn't go anywhere, it doesn't take in any important must see sights, it's 1.5 km of nothing.

Who knows how long the Te Whero bridge will take to built, I think after the temp bridge is finished people will forget about the permenant one and this track will be all that we will get.

I think its fantastic

Its a great start

The trams will become iconic

Come summer - they will be as photographed and as an imbeded part of the city
as the Skytower/Harbour Bridge and Rangitoto

Thats my crystal ball gaze ...for what its worth!

Rob we all understand your objection to this project and it's be aknowledged that objection has some validity. But to keep repeating it over and over again is frankly boring and nobody wants to hear it again.

So do us all a favour just drop it, this is going ahead and yourwhining is not going to change that. You can come back in a year and tell us all you were right, until then do us all a favour and just let it go.

But this isn't public transport, it's a tourist venture designed to shake money out of tourist and locals who are too lazy to walk 1.5km. As you have said PT's goal is to improve accessibility, it should encompass meaningful routes which move large numbers of people quickly and efficiently from A to B, clearly this loup will never do that.

Its an experience - part of the total Wynard experience

Look I have young kids

For me Wynard represents a whole fun day
Ferry into city
Kids with scooters
what evers happening on Queens wharf...when we arrive
Wynard - cafe
Silos ..fun
Tram ride fun
Maybe some fishing...an even event at the new maritime events center?

Same - as we view a funday with
Motat and Trams
....or Zoo and Trams

except - this is in the city

I will be one proud Jaffa - when I see tourist clicking photos of our trams back in the CBD

I really think The whole Wynard experience ...will make it an end destination in itself

Further - to this I think
M Lee is on to a winner here...once this Tram experience proves a success...and a hit with locals..which it will
Whos going to say no to further extensions and investment? certainly not any opposition..that would be a death sentance

Once it expands out of Wynard..then the real purpose of public transport can take over!!!

I blamed him for impedimant of the waterfront stadium ...but all is forgiven now ...if he can make this work.....

Trams: new menace on Auckland roads

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/ar...ectid=10748299

From the Herald this morning...

I think there might be bigger things to worry about than a tram that goes around the block!

I love how the Herald can blow a story out of all proportion.

Mike Lee has said that new tram tracks will be laid to Britomart starting in December and should be finished within a year - does this mean that the flash Te Wero Bridge is going to be built sooner rather than later ?

oh really? that would be awesome if it can be extend to Britomart that soon.

but maybe it can go along Gaunt Street, then back to Customs St West instead of building a new bridge?

Id disagre insomuch as that the traffic rules clearly need to be reintroduced to give Trams the right of way, particularly if the network is to be increased.

Typical Herald, taking up much needed print space that could otherwise be given to the priority news items of the day such as Happyfeet...
