Ljubljana in November?

Is Ljubljana worth visiting in November? What weather should i expect? What is there to see at this time of the year? Is there anything in particular i should know?

Please could a local give me some information on the city or even someone who has been at this time of the year.

Thanks

I live here. The weather varies a lot, it can range from anything like snow to rain to just ordinary cloudy autumn, or even some sunshine. It's not freezing, it doesn't go to minus.

Ljubljana is in November especially associated with the Liffe international film festival The tickets are of normal price.

What are your preferences in terms of what to see here? This year, Ljubljana is the World book capital, so there are loooots of culture events on that topic And other ones too.

If I were you, I'd visit Ljubljana in May-September to enjoy its vibrant cafe culture, but if you have to do it in cold weather, do it in December! It is lovely then.

Ljubljana is allways a nice place to visit, even in the middle of the winter. The weather should bi nice, a little bit coldy, but probably without a snow. Maybe a bad rainy weather... What to see in Ljubljana? First, tell us how old are you and your friends, partner, family etc and the reason why are you going to stay here. It will be much easier to give advices

Irnbru, I'd suggest visiting either in summer or late spring/early autumn. Weather here is very changeable (goes form 30 to 10 and back to 35 °c sometimes in summer), but mostly there is nice and hot weather in summer.

Ok guys i will try and give some more information. My friend is getting married in september as soon as he returns home from Afghanistan. He then goes on a honeymoon.

So instead of him having the dreaded stag do, he has suggested him and a few close friends visit a city for the chance for him to get a much needed break after his wedding.

I have heard some nice things about Ljubljana so i have dedided to organise a break for a long weekend in November ( the only time suitable for him).

I am 22, and the age ranges from 20 (his brother) to late 50's (his dad).

As Scotsmen we like a few beers, but would like to see some of the real Slovenia too or any special events that are on at the time. The way the locals do things and such. Just something a little bit different to the normal 'boys' weekend.

Hope this helps!

Hm... Not a bad choice. Things you could do are a bit limited in November, because the grape picking and wine making is going on in October, and the Happy December things are going in December, on 3rd of December the christmas decoration lights get lit up and that is a big happening usually a few thousand people are there to see it and it is still gaining popularity. In November we have a holiday, called Martinovanje (from st. Martin) from which comes a very special feast (Martin's feast) Martinova pojedina, it is very delicious, and because the guy was the protector of wine, there is a lot of wine and of course Slovenia has great wines. Beer is there all of the time of course, maybe a concert in the new sports arena (they will start doing concerts there in october and there are talks about a large number of concert from october forward). If there is snow in late November ther is possibility for skiing, you can also go visit the whole Slovenia. From Ljubljana basically every thing is in the range of 200 kiolmeters (which ranges from 1.5 to 2.5 hours of driving by car). Take Ljubljana or it's surroundings for your stay and you can go any where. On the coast Novembers are usually a bit colder (for us, not sure, how colder is it in Scotland), but mainly because of the high winds. Maybe Spa's wouldn't be bad. Definately something worth visiting. These are also one of the Slovenian most visited tourist destination (the Austro-German population is very keen of them). You can also go to Venice (2h drive), maybe some other country to. It's basicly all Schengen (except Croatia, where there's allmoast no difference, except you have to have a passport with you), so your free at will. Not sure how many of you will be going, but certainly good to take a rent-a-car. Well, don't take this as something firm, because I probably missed something and someone else can add some things, maybe even better things, that I've forgot to mention. But as already said, November, isn't the best month, at least I don't particullary like it.
Hope you come and have a great time here.

It depends, but more or less it is concentrated in the centre, with some minor locations outside as well.

But for November, there is nothing to worry about, because the students come back and there are always parties all the time, in the typical clubs, in student clubs and of course, in the dorms.

there is METELKOVA MESTO (Metekova city, center of Ljubljana) if there isnt any better choise, U go there but the programe is looooooooow budget (and prices ), so dont expect anything special...

there are "student parties" (lots of horny babes!) in KMŠ (http://www.klub-kms.si/), Emonska klet/ Emonska basemant (http://www.emonskaklet.com/), Bachus club (http://www.bachus-center.com/NOVA/na.../napovenik.asp), Tramontana club (http://www.tramontana.info/)... in some of this places U can hear also "balcan" music, if U arent lucky (joke ) on some days...

electronic clubs: "legendary" K4 (http://www.klubk4.org/), InBox (http://www.inbox-club.si/, biggest electronic party place in Ljubljana), and maybe some massive electronic party venue ("Gospodarsko razstavišče", "Sport park Stožice"...), but we dont know yet...

rock places? I know only about "Orto bar" (http://www.orto-bar.com/) but there are others...

ill leave it to the others, to tell you about other great places to party

guys this is great news, i was beggining to think that there was no real late bars or clubs in the City which would have been a bit of a disaster.

I'm guessing the clubs and late bars are all year round?

ah what a relief, thank you so much for your help.

Are there any real special night spots that i should think about visiting? maybe a bar that plays live music or something like that?

I'm excited about visiting the city now and cannot wait to get there.

Could you be more specific, please? What kind of music do you prefer?

Rock / punk: Orto Bar; address: Grabloviceva ulica 1, Ljubljana
Indie / alter / ethnic: Metelkova mesto (eg. Club "Menza pri koritu" etc); address: Metelkova ulica 8, Ljubljana
Jazz: Sax Pub (address: Eipprova ulica 7, Ljubljana), Gajo Jazz Club (currently closed; might be reopened on a new location till November though)
Cabaret, Chanson: Kavarna Union (Miklošičeva ulica 1, Ljubljana)

Sometimes somethings interesting going on also (rarely, but ... if you are lucky) in:

Opera Bar; address: Cankarjeva ulica 12, Ljubljana
Club Nebotičnik (address: Stefanova ulica 1, Ljubljana) is set to be reopened this Fall - I guess with jazz / ethnic / chanson music programme
Dvorni Bar wine bar; address: Dvorni trg 2, Ljubljana

Find exact locations on Google Maps
Another hint: some of the above listed sites have a Facebook profile as well.

Urban Culture Center "Kino Siska" (address: Trg Prekomorskih brigad 3, Ljubljana) also offers reach music programme.

Btw, Latino Salsa parties are also very popular here lately. Especially among girls in early 20s. Various clubs / pubs features such parties. Visit http://www.salsaslovenija.org/eng.html for more info on programme.

Yet usually almost every Pub / Club / Bar have some sort of DJ engaged on especially on the weekends and Thursdays (traditional day for student's parties). You definitely won't be bored in Ljubljana.

There's also many solo guitar performances (mostly newcomers) going on in various pubs. Not to mention occasional Balkan music performances by more-or-less famous local (regional) "stars".

In Your Pocket guide is very useful: http://www.inyourpocket.com/slovenia/ljubljana in combination with the web (Google, Facebook, MySpace etc).

And as already said by others: Martinovanje (St. Martin's Feast) is going on in November (Nov 11th; most events are scheduled for the weekend before Nov 11th though) - with various dedicated wine & food parties ... great to experience local drinking habits, LOL.

I hope you'll enjoy Ljubljana, and ... have some fun. Don't hesitate! If not settling on a saome specific place, you can just cruise the bars & pubs. There are plenty of them in the old town. And, if you're a drinker you must definitely try local beers, wines and/or even spirits.

I hope all these info & advices will help you with your itinerary planning.
