I don't see why overseas investors shouldn't be allowed. But I believe certain procedures have to be followed. All they should be concerned is with the money they will be getting from the sale of the apartments. This is one of the prime locations (excellent locations). The area is being developed rapidly and there are bunch of supertalls coming up in the area. Don't know how much is the price per foot, but I am guessing the price of the cheapest apartments would be at least 40-50 million rupees.

the pricing is there in the 1st post. flats priced between 8 crores and 50 crores (i.e. 80 million and 500 million rupees). i would guess per sq. ft. would range between 30k to 50k depending on the floor

Ha, it's alright. Even I was confused.

Wonder when more news on the Wadala tower will come out. Hope they stick to the original plan of 530m.

I guess MMRDA will need some publicity, so we should expect that very soon.

Shiv Sena opposes tallest building in Mumbai

Quote:
Mumbai: The Shiv Sena-BJP tug of war, which first began in Aurangabad, has now cast its shadow on the proposed construction of the world’s tallest residential tower, which is to come up in Lower Parel. Sena has opposed the construction of World One — a 1,450-feet residential tower — which has been proposed on a 17.5 acre plot of the defunct Shrinivas Mill. The tower is being constructed the Lodha Group, which is headed by BJP MLA and the party’s city unit secretary Mangal Prabhat Lodha.

Arguing that the construction would further burden the already outstretched infrastructure in Parel and Worli, the Sena has asked the city municipal corporation to not issue permissions for construction activity on the site.

Indications that the opposition had an approval of the top Sena leadership came when the party launched a signature campaign and distributed pamphlets in Parel and Worli, urging locals to join in the agitation. The pamphlets claimed that the initiative was taken up under the guidance of Sena supremo Bal Thackeray.

Lodha however, said, “I do not want to comment on why the Sena is agitating. It is an iconic project for the city.”

I dont get it. How is this adding to the infrastructure crunch in Parel/Worli?

am guessing most of the owners will probably be NRI's or rich people who already live in the nearby area and have cars anyways, which are probably parked along the road.

Now during construction if they do block the roads etc then yes it may cause a lot of hindrances. Many times what happens is that while building the builder hires workers who live on site in slums. Happened in my parts. New building coming up and the slums of the workers sprouted across and side walk and general road bringing traffic to a stand still.

But as long as they stick to that 17.5 acre plot(which they should be able to) providing adequate sanitary facilities to the workers and the material carrying trucks etc dont choke traffic even further I really dont see what the issue is. If anything this project is a job generator. It provides for parking and if mostly self sufficient in other amenities.

Eh? Astronomically priced villas and penthouses for the super-rich are now "iconic" for the city? In what way?

Next they'll be saying Antilla is iconic for the city.

I for one can't get the big deal about this project at all. Hardly a matter of great pride for thie city, unless you're the type to care about tallest building records (which anyway Dubai will porbably upstage in no time)

FYI - Dubai has already upstaged it in terms of tallest buidling and they will never be get upstaged by any one in recent times.

You gotta think broadly of what a developed country means and how a city can showcase its country around the world to get into that 1st category league in this universe.

Those are office buildings and hotels - ostensibly "public places", no matter how exclusive or difficult to get into.

This is a RESIDENTIAL building. How can somebody's house be iconic for the city? World One is no Buckingham Palace, and if it means to be, they better conduct tours through these villas for the general public.

ah ok, my bad, didn't know that - but then i'm not really interested in these kind of projects anyway.

Still, sounds kind of silly to regard this sort of building as a city's pride. Monuments, well-developed public places a la Central Park, major business centres / tech parks etc might make sense, maybe even a very well-developed mall, but a residential building ...well...to me at least it signifies nothing.
