OT: How safe is Iran air?

I'm flying Iran air from UK to Shiraz. I try to follow up with Iranian Aviation, but would love to here some responses. I didn't even know Iranian planes goto UK. I must say, I'm pretty nervous lol. How Safe is it? It's 3,000 miles from UK to Shiraz. I assume that the flight path goes through the EU and Turkey, which is nice and safe.

You are much safer on the international flights. On the other hand you should show concern if you are flying domestic.

why dont you just use Brtiish Airways? or do they not fly to Iran?
i used Iran Air twice its fine but the planes are kind of old because western sanctions prevent Iran from buying western made planes.. but they are fine

dont worry i dont think it would fly over Iraq lol

I flew with Iran Air many times and their service is very good and you have also more legroom than KLM and other airlines, yes BMI flies with an A321 to Tehran from heathrow, you can also go from birmingham with Mahan Air which is a good option too also the prices of Mahan are cheaper! no, they don't fly over Iraq but over Northern Turkey

Iran air is rubbish. Their planes and their stuff. If you wanna go to Shiraz go by Gulfair. Go to bahrain and then change to shiraz. Iran air just recently has flights straight to Shiraz.

Of course they fly over Iraq. All major European and Asian (exept Israeli) airlines fly over Iraq. I have flown from Istanbul to Dubai with Emirates over Iraq and it was beautiful apart from the gas flares. If you fly from Europe to Iran on any airline you are safe but domestic flights are more dicey. The main problems with Iran Air international flights are delays, infrequent schedules and poor/lack of in flight entertainment.

I think the Iraqi airspace is safe. But, the way through Turkey is nearer and better to fly over to reach from Europe, I think.
I don't understand why some people describe Iran Air's service as crap! They have old planes, that's right, but they maintain them as far as they can (with all the stupid sanctions). The price-performance ratio is quite good.
Though there are unhumain sanctions against Iran's civil aviation, the Iranian engineers are capable to maintain all the planes very good! Besides, I strongly believe Iran (especially Iran Air) has the best pilots worldwide.
Although the planes are old, they can manage to fly those planes secure. Besides they always make smooth landings, which I have never seen by any other airline!
It's right, Iran Air can have imrovements, their fleet and the entertainment at the bord, but with the price you pay you get a very good service and flight!!

Yeah, that's right. Mahan Air is also good, but doesn't fly to most cities in Europe, while Iran Air does. Therefore I think it's easier fro the Thread-starter to fly with Iran Air.

since he's going from UK, Mahan Air is cheaper from Birmingham...
also he can have an option for London-dusseldorf-Tehran------->Mahan Air
I bought my ticket to Tehran only for 370 Euros...which is very cheap I think

I don't really blame Iran air completely for the frequent and lengthy delays, I have noticed that their passengers tend to flood in all at once to check in which is probably the root cause of it... Though I don't know anything about the logistics of it!

You're right, the role of the passengers shouldn't be overseen. But, from reliable sources I know, that the majority of the delays are either due to lack of spare parts for the plane, or problems with the Sepah, which is currently operating most of the airports. And I have to say the second one, is the bigger problem. The mismanagement of some offlicials (all Sepah-officials) brings such big problems. That's the consequence when "some" people are chosen for directing a big segment..., while they don't have the slightest idea what to do!
Okay, I don't want to bring politics in this thread, but as you might see, these days everything has gone political.

370€??? That's really cheap. I wonder how you could get that ticket. But it isn't normally this price, is it?

Yes, for sure! I would say that most of the delays that happen in foreign airports is generally caused by the passengers.

Well it is, and isn't political, beyond corruption in the government, Iranians have an embedded impulse to help out family and friends over taking the proper procedure, in this case; an effective human resources policy. Although networking can get you pretty far in the West too.

Yes, the passengers are generally the cause of some delays. Especially when they have to wait for one single person... .

By the way, did you ask for the "thanks" button? Or did you forget it?

It wasn't so important, therefore it's okay I think. But still I want to know why they didn't want it. I mean it shouldn't have been so hard to place a 'Thanks' button there, is it?

Okay, but 370EUR is really cheap, even compared with Iran Air.
Iran Air and Mahan Air have really cheap tickets, when comparing with British Airways, Lufthansa, Emirates, ... . Usually you just pay 1/3 of the amount of the money you pay for the tickets of bigger airlines.

It was faced with the 'leave the forum as it is' mentality.
