Bellary a hub for CA coaching

Quote:
BELLARY: The city hit the headlines in recent times for illegal mining. But Bellary is gaining fame for becoming of a hub of chartered accountants. With over 100 practising CAs, the city boasts of a vibrant branch of the South India Regional Council, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

While coaching classes to crack the chartered accountancy exams have mushroomed here, they're so much in demand that fees have been hiked so much that middle class students are finding it difficult. The Bellary institute has now started coaching classes too.

Bellary a hub for CA coaching

The city hit the headlines in recent times for illegal mining.

Classes commenced on February 15 for the Common Profeciency Test (CPT) on June 17 with 25 students in the first batch. While private coaching courses costs vary between Rs 30000 and Rs 35,000, the institute is offering it for Rs 6,000. The institute has also started coaching for Integrated Professional Competency Course (IPCC) with 23 students. While private coaching for this costs almost Rs 60,000, the institute offers the course at Rs 11,000.

Y Ramesh, chairman of the branch, told TOI that young chartered accountants were much in demand. He added that the institute is equipped with a state-of-the-art library which would be upgraded to a digital library soon. The institute would soon start coaching for final CA exams too.

Karnataka to notify land for Mittal plant at Bellary today

Karnataka will set in motion today the process of acquiring 4,800 acres in Bellary for the mega steel plant being set up by ArcelorMittal, a top official said.
"The government has approved the land acquisition at Kudathini in Bellary district and the preliminary notification will be issued tomorrow in the state gazette", state principal industry secretary VP Baligar told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.
ArcelorMittal plans to set up a Rs 30,000-crore steel plant with 6mtpa capacity and also a 750mw captive power generation unit, he said.
"We had kept everything ready. Their team visited the place for third time yesterday and said these villages are fine. As soon as they gave me the green signal this morning, we got the approval from chief minister BS Yeddyurappa and we have notified these lands", he said.
Mittal had evinced interest in 4,800 acres located near a Karnataka Power Corporation project, Baligar said adding the land is ready and "we will lend immediately to Mittal."
The Mittal investment would entail job generation of over 10,000 in the long-term, he said.
Mittal's firm had earlier evinced interest to locate their plant at Bijapur, but later chose Bellary, an iron ore rich district, which the government accepted.

Replying to a question on Korean Posco Steel's interest in setting up a plant in the state, Baligar said, "a team had come, they had discussions and we are hopeful. The company was looking at land around Bellary. "But they have not decided".
On mines for these steel plants, he said some mining area in Bellary has been notified. Other mines are also open for application. "They have applied and it has to be decided," he said. In terms of provision of water, he said part of it will come from the Tunghabadra dam and other from the Upper Krishna.
Meanwhile he also said Hero Honda evinced interest to set up a plant entailing an investment of Rs 200 crore, he said, "a team had come, they have seen three sites, one in Hubli and two in Dharwad".
The Hero Honda would require 100 acres for themselves, and 200 acres for ancillaries and may be 100 acres for a township in the long term too, he said, adding however that nothing has been finalised.
Egyptian company Kapsci Coating, which was interested in seeting up a plant for paints, had also been looking for land near Bangalore. "They have seen two-three sites, they will get back to us", he said

NMDC may raise Rs.5,000 crore for Karnataka project

Mining major National Mineral Development Corporation Limited (NMDC) may raise about Rs.5,000 crore through debt or equity to fund its planned two- million-tonne steel project in Karnataka, a top company official said here on Friday.
"We may go for further equity offering for our Karnataka project," joint general manager (finance) N. Srinivasan said.He was here for a roadshow to promote the follow-on public offer (FPO) of shares of the company that is opening March 10 and closing March 12.The Karnataka project is at a nascent stage. NMDC has just appointed a consultant to prepare a project report."We expect to start work on the project after a year's time and commission it within the next five years," Srinivasan said.

This apart, NMDC is working on setting up another steel project of 3 million tonnes capacity at Chhattisgarh, which would be commissioned before the Karnataka plant comes up.
NMDC's current internal accrual stands at Rs.12,000 crore. The company earns about Rs.4,000 crore every year as profit, which goes into its reserves. All these would be pumped into the company's Rs.26,000 crore capital expenditure that includes the integrated steel plant in Chhattisgarh, two pelletisation plants, a beneficiation plant and developing new mines, Srinivasan said.
