Stuff we learned

Stuff we learned:

MRT Line 1 | Sg. Buloh to Kajang | Mid 2011-Late 2016
We have learned that:
  • There will be 31 stations with provision for 3 more stations (total of 34);
  • Seksyen 17 & Seksyen 16 Stations have been combined into one station at Sekysen 16;
  • TTDI station has been moved southwards from the original proposed site to a site between the Caltex petrol station and Jalan Wan Kadir 4;
  • A station at the Rubber Research Institute will be provided in the future;
  • Bukit Bintang station will be shifted to the west side of Jalan Sultan Ismail for faster access to the KL Monorail and will now be called Bukit Bintang Central; [TRANSIT: Why not just call it Bukit Bintang?]
  • "KL Sentral" will actually be built on the site of Muzium Negara; [TRANSIT: So call it Muzium Negara]
  • It appears that Plaza Phoenix, Leisure Mall, 1Utama and The Curve still get their free advertising; [TRANSIT: And yet they talk about maximizing revenue]
  • There will be 16 stations with Park & Ride facilities as opposed to 13 proposed originally;
  • The alignments
    of Sg. Buloh & Kajang stations have been adjusted

MRT Line 2 | Sentul Timur - Miharja - Ampang - Sentul Timur | 2014-2020 / 2020-2030
We have learned that:
  • MRT Line 2 will be an orbital line running around KL town.
  • It will be built in 2 phases: from Sentul Timur - Miharja - Ampang (to be complete by 2020) and Ampang - Sentul Timur (to be complete by 2030;

MRT Line 3 | Selayang - Pandan Jaya - Seri Kembangan | 2014-2020 / 2020-2030

We have learned that:
  • MRT Line 3 will run from Selayang to Seri Kambangan
  • It will be built in 2 phases, namely Selayang - Pandan Jaya (2014-2020) and Pandan Jaya - Seri Kembangan (2020- 2030)

LRT Line "3" | Kelana Jaya - Klang | 2020 - 2030
We have learned that:
  • An LRT Line from Kelana Jaya to Klang has been proposed;
  • This line is to start construction in 2020 and be complete by 2030;
  • This line was proposed in the Selangor Structure Plan 2006 (which was recently revised by the current Selangor Government);
  • While the proposed line is referred to as LRT Line 3, we note that technically the Monorail is referred to as "LRT Sistem 3" but this may have changed. On the other hand, with the extension of the monorail (below) we may have to call it LRT Sistem 3 and refer to the Kelana Jaya - Klang Line as LRT Sistem 4;

KL Monorail | Extension to Jalan Klang Lama | early 2012 - late 2017
We have learned that:
  • The KL Monorail will be extended to Jalan Klang Lama, which was the original proposal (before the financial crisis of 1997-98)

Putrajaya Monorail
We have learned that:
  • The Putrajaya Monorail will be constructed

KTM Freight Alternative Line | Batu Tiga - Sg. Buloh | 2013 - 2015
We have learned that:
  • KTM will build a "bypass" route for freight trains to avoid the Klang Valley;
  • This line will be routed from Batu Tiga to Sg. Buloh;
  • The line will probably be an extension of the Sri Subang spur line (which links Batu Tiga to Subang Airport);
  • TRANSIT has expressed our preference for the original proposal, a complete bypass of the Klang Valley from Alor Gajah - Port Klang - Batu Gajah;

KTM Komuter Upgrades | 2012 - 2015
We have learned that:
  • KTM Komuter upgrades will begin at the beginning of 2012

Cheers, m

It can be part of the present extension by just linking it to the pusat damasara station via segambut/m kiara.MRT Line 2 | Sentul Timur - Miharja - Ampang - Sentul Timur | 2014-2020 / 2020-2030

MRT line 2 most likely share AML infra from miharja to ampang so no U/G..in fact it would be totally stupid to dig a hole parallel underneath a track n stop at the same station

so the question is will the track from miharja to ampang run 2 system,MRT2 and AML,.or only MRT2,while AML will only run from sentul timur to sri petaling?

dunt think MRT3 will go so far until putrajaya sentral,.look at those picture n u know that putrajaya monorail (the red line) will link both ERL n MRT3

Some story I heard about the plans to automate the AGL, upgrade the signalling from CBTC to SCADA for full ATO. Given the LRT-width of that particular stretch, expect a LRT-width kind of an MRT system.

It's a pity that Prasarana didn't take the opportunity to settle this LRT/MRT headache. From where I'm standing, apart from the train width, there's not much difference between the two.

It would depend on a few factors. First, the Ampang line is now identified as a spur line of the Sentul - Sri Petaling Line

Second, for the moment the Ampang line depot is at Ampang statio and there is no info on what will happen with that.

Third, interlining Ampang line and the MRT on the same stretch is going to be a challenge.

Fourth, tunnel construction for the segment north of Jalan Ampang will be a challenge.

So methinks that it will just make more sense to shut down the Ampang line and incorporate the line and depot into MRT Line 2.

I wonder if the Circle Line will be a complete circle (no terminal stations) or an orbital line terminating at Ampang (meaning that you would have to transfer from surface to underground or vice versa if you wish to make a connecting trip through Ampang station).

They will also have to look at extending the Sri Petaling line and finding a place for another depot in the north side of KL.

Cheers, m

allurban, based on the Nu Sentral layout, the KL monorail will starts from there to the new line ending at Old Klang Road. Does this means that the engineers need to construct a narrow curve from Nu Sentral towards Bangsar...?

dont know about that..., but i do know that they hire a canadian(arabs origin) as one of their consultant. that is why they look at vancouver as one of their reference in developing our MRT.

We should have a Dang Wangi / Jalan Raja Abdullah station actually.

Heikal, I don't really know much about the plan for the KL Monorail extension and how it fits into the NU Sentral proposal.

I believe the original plan for NU Sentral was simply a short extension of the KL Monorail's tailtrack into the complex, but I haven't seen any plans that show this to be happening - just media reports and we know how reliable those aren't.

The plan for the original Sg. Buloh - Cheras LRT/MRT was to have the line elevated through Bangsar and Brickfields, going underground at the YMCA.

Now we are hearing that there might be an underground MRT under Jalan Tun Sambanthan, part of the Circle Line.

If the monorail is simply a new line starting at the KL Monorail station in Brickfields, I think it would be a separate line as I do not know if there is room to build connecting track. What might be possible is that a single curving track could be put into place to allow the connection, but I doubt that the two routes could act as one.

The other solution is to go back to the original KL Monorail plan - restructure the tracks so that the monorail extends past KL Sentral and a shuttle train links Brickfields and Tun Sambanthan.

Or another possibility - another monorail line that starts at Tun Sambanthan and ends at Old Klang Road

Cheers, m

Grand Total:289(44 stations underground)
Length Grand Total: 529.55km

We can sum up by 2030 we have 529.55km of rail and 289 stations
2030 20 years.. However not all residents are benefit from the plan..

Any other line that connect to other sub urban place instead of running through KL city centre? Let say from Subang go to Bandar Utama?

That's why I say last time a SPUR LINE is needed between Kelana Jaya (LRT) and 1 Utama (MRT1).

THere's plenty of land via the Kayu Ara area. So someone will take LRT Extension from Subang Parade, ride to Kelana Jaya then ride to 1 Utama.
