20 April 2017

The number of bus routes on London's Oxford Street has been cut by 40% ahead of its potential pedestrianisation

Introducing the Citymapper Smartbus

This has been a long time coming. We’re proud to unveil our biggest kept secret: Project Grasshopper (previously known as Project Caterpillar, (previously known as Project “yo, we should buy a bus. totally.”)).

We’re running a (smarter) bus service

In fact, we’re reinventing the entire software stack for running and operating a bus. We believe smarter buses lead to better mobility and cities.
Starting on Tue May 9th and Wed May 10th. With an experimental popup route: CMX1, running a Circulator in the heart of London.

Today I saw one of the two ordered Van Hool hydrogen buses for London pass by. I live in Belgium not far from the Van Hool factory. It indicated that it was running on line 9. I have no idea if that will be the case once it starts operations in London. The bus was plain red with no stickers yet applied. For those who know they have the front like the new hybrids in Monaco. Unfortunately I was driving myself so no pictures.

BYD ADL to supply more short electric buses to London
15 Jun 2017

UK: RATP Dev London has selected a joint venture of Shenzhen-based BYD and Alexander Dennis as preferred bidder to supply 36 electric buses. The operator signed a memorandum of understanding with BYD on June 14 at the Guangdong Economic & Trade Co-operation Conference in London, and contract signature is due in the next few weeks.

The joint venture will supply its Enviro200 model, with deliveries starting in early 2018. The 10·8 m long bus with capacity for 76 passengers is designed for more restrictive route conditions than the 12 m long Enviro200 buses already in service in London. The supplier says that each battery-powered bus is guaranteed to complete a full day’s duty cycle between charges

London buses full of beans with new biofuel
The Times Excerpt
Nov 18, 2017

Coffee grounds could be used to power London buses after the oil company Shell signed a deal to fund an inventor who dreamt up the idea at university.

The process devised by Arthur Kay, co-founder and chief executive of a company called Bio-bean, creates a fuel that is blended with regular diesel, has lower emissions and does not require engines to be modified.

The company collects and processes 50,000 tonnes of grounds a year and the blended fuel can save 6.8 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions for every tonne of recycled coffee used. It hopes to take on 50 more employees.

The idea came to Mr Kay when he was designing a coffee shop during his architecture degree course at University College London, which he…
