The firm said the projects each of 140 MW are to be located in Olkaria near Naivasha town.

It said International Development Association (IDA), Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) and French Development Agency (AFD) are funding building of Olkaria IV geothermal plant and Olkaria I additional units.

“The Government and Kenya Power and Lighting Company have also applied for financing from European Investment Bank (EIB) and German Development Cooperation (KfW) under the contracts,” he said.

Supply and building of steam field for Olkaria IV area and extension of system for Olkaria I is to be financed by IDA and KfW.

It covers pipelines for steam gathering, brine, condensate reinjection and steam separators.

Mr Kimemia said Jica will fund additional units 4 and 5 with associated building and civil engineering works to consist two identical geothermal turbines.

He said Olkaria IV power plant is be financed by AFD and EIB with scope of work covering engineering, procurement and building of two or three generator units in the Olkaria Domes area.
