There's many houses like that all over Iraq.

An Iraqi man walks past an old stone house in Baghdad on June 4, 2012, as Iraqi architects and historians have decried official neglect of historical buildings nationwide, many of which have fallen into disrepair and disuse, and called for greater attention to be paid to them.

Some lovely old houses in Najaf

They should renovate them before they all collapse...

These structures have thick walls and are close together - presumably because it keeps the streets in the shade.

In Iran they have these wind towers, which are hollow towers with windows at the top. They are used for cooling. They put these in homes and also on top of these water storage tanks to keep drinking water cool. Ingenious people, those Ajam.

Very very interesting! it's awesome to collect photos of old Iraqi houses like these houses.. government should pay more attention for this heritage or it'll disappear!

Quote:

I really hope itīs true...
