The tower will have a curvy shape, with some setbacks. Cladding will mimic the green of Central Park. Also, the structure as a whole will be topped off by a magnificent crown which will be illuminated at night.

You won't be disappointed.

I just realized that 225 West 57th Street will be 3 feet taller than the Empire State Building. I think that's a big step forward and we should be thankful.
And btw, the building's name has not been chosen yet.

Thank you very much for the scoop! It looks like the Willis Tower will still be the king of the Western Hemisphere for the time being as far as I am concerned. I was hoping that this one would put New York back on top. Looking forward to seeing the design!

I'd bet a lot of money the USA will never build a tower taller than Willis to the roof in our life time if ever again.

I never had high hopes for this project to begin with since I knew 1550 feet was unrealistic for NYC so I'm not so shocked.

You are entitled to your opinion,

but what a ridiculous statement. I am sure a few years ago you would have said the same thing about having buildings over 400m besides the World Trade Center, and here we are. Just because this one may end up being 1250 ft (as i am also dissapointed), does not mean something bigger and taller will not come out of New York.

If anything i am sure getting this 1250 ft will be better in the end for the skyline, having several towers in the 1000-1350ft range is better then one in the 1550 ft area. Just wait and you may be surprised at what other proposals come our way.

I find it interesting how every time a proposal for New York is diminished in grandeur, a select group of forumers always tries to justify the setback and argues that the proposal is for some reason better after it is diminished. This proposal has just been destroyed in terms of significance. Plain and simple. It will be just one of over half a dozen ~350m buildings that will be built in the city within the current decade.

NY is the only first-world city building loads of supertalls.

Supposedly, Extell has reached a deal with Vornado re: 220 CPS and that could be a supertall too.

Only in NY!

None of them are of any exceptional height. 400m is big but nothing incredible anymore.

I was kidding

I just can't bring myself to refer to it as "Willis" tower. I went my whole childhood and half of my adulthood knowing it as "Sears" tower. Just because someone came along and bought it, doesn't mean "I" will ever refer to it as Willis. It's always been a Major U.S. landmark known as the Sears Tower. Could you imagine if Donald Trump bought the ESB and changed it's name to the "Trump Slump" Would you call it that?

I refuse to call it the "Willis Tower".

All the more reason the Nordstrom tower should be taller IMO

There is nothing wrong with being optimistic but you have to be realistic at the same time.

How many 400m towers are planned for Singapore, London, Paris, SF, LA, HK, or any other city that could plausibly claim to be in NY's league? None.

If this tower was at least the same height as 432 Park Avenue, it would've provided symmetry in the Central Park skyline. One 400 meter tower on the east side, another 400 meter tower on the west side.

Regardless, this taking a 300 ft hair cut, although better then nothing, definitely a disappointment.

The Design can be great, but with such a loss in height, defiantly missed out on what it could be.

I disagree. We are lucky to have around 10 300m+ towers planned.

Thats fine to disagree,

yes plenty of supertalls to go around, but i am not talking about other developments, i am talking about this tower in particular.

Your saying 1550 feet to 1250 feet is not a drastic drop, and a noticeable difference in what could have been and what is going to be?

432 Park proves that height isn't everything. I suspect the design for this baby will blow 432 out of the water.

If this is true, then that makes 2 additional supertall opportunities at 360 10th Ave and 220 CPS.

Guys,

Let's not act like ten year olds and throw a conniption because the tower will "only" be 1,250 feet. If it's a great design, then who cares?

Let's be fortunate for the following supertalls planned for (or u/c in) NY:

1. 1 WTC
2. 2 WTC
3. 3 WTC
4. Torre Verre
5. 225 W 57th
6. 105 W 57th
7. 432 Park
8. One HY
9. Girasole
10. E Tower at HY (basically a supertall)
11. 22 Thames
12. Residential tower on West St at St. John's site
13. One57
14. 80 South St.

There are many more to come.
