Btw, I find it really hilarious how suddenly everyone started comparing NY with cities of the world when one ny's tower got drastically reduced in height. Compensating much anyone
That's true. NY's only peer is London, and London doesn't even build tall towers.

And who cares if it's true. It's completely unrelated to the height decrease of this building.

look, First I like to say that I'm grateful that Extell is building this tower and AS+GG will be completing their first project in NYC. Adrian Smith will have his first tower in NYC and that is huge in my skyscraper universe.

What bothers me was the article with Adrian Smith quoted saying that they are working on a 1,200 tower in NYC and this was back in freaking March and said it as if things where already set in stone. This is what I'm bummed about.

All the while we were led to believe all this Hype of this being 1550 ft or taller from a number of articles and quotes form Barnett until our source gave us the scoop.

One thing. I will reserve judgment until I see the renderings. I am sure it will be fantastic but the one detail that troubles me a bit is that the central park facing fašade of the building will be green? Are there any green supertalls out there I can reference from?

I know one tower in Warsaw with green cladding and I really love the effect in person. It all depends on quality of design and execution of it. And I believe a tower designed by smith+gill and build in nyc will have both at high level. I generally like diversity and I definitely wouldn't mind some dark green cladding in a quality design for a change.

Hi all,

word is that a rendering showing the tower integrated in the New York skyline will be available soon. High resolution renderings will follow by the end of the month, most likely developed by DBOX. A homepage (just like with 0ne57) is currently under development, although a proper name has not been chosen yet.

Just this morning I spoke with a friend of mine about the project . We are both very eager to watch this beautiful tower rise in the next years and grace our skyline.

Also, I'd like to add that new D.O.B. filings will be submitted pretty soon. If everything goes according to plan, a construction start by the end of the year is very likely.

Regards,
James

Awesome James. Thanks for keeping us informed. Dbox makes great renderings and for the projects like this are the go to guys in the industry. Can't wait to see the release.

Although, no official name for the project has not been released.. I do like the name for the tower to be Nordstrom, if it is not it will probably be 217 W 57th street like many official building names in NYC are. We shall see I guess.

The tower was in redesign in the last couple of months by Adrian Smith & Gordon Hill.
The height will be listed as 1217'4'' (blueprints), and officially as 1253 feet (including the crown).

All I can say is, it will be a very fine tower and a gift to the evolving Manhattan skyline.

True, Diversity would be a good thing and I'm sure the cladding will be of highest quality especially from AS+GG. Can't wait to see an official release.

See post http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpo...postcount=2105.

@Vertical_Gotham:

Don't worry about the cladding, it will be of the highest quality. The rendering shows a dark green cladding with some black panels (more like lines) in between. A very interesting pattern if you ask me.

I gotta get back to work.

Have a nice day all,

Regards,
James

It's starting to sound like 1550 was the silly joke.

He obviously had the air rights to build to 1,550. I believe that the redesign was done in conjection with an agreement with Vornado re: the respective placement of 225 W 57th and 220 CPS to preserve both parties air rights. Perhaps, the main tower of 225 had to shift to the west and that of 220 had to shift to the east.

This is what I'm thinking, that 225 W 57th and 220 CPS have to be configured together to preserve and enhance views and thus their value. I don't know if they'll be a matched set but they have to be designed with respect to each other if Extell is to maximize their value. That shouldn't have affected the height of 225 W 57th but getting both properties moving at the same time certainly affects the wallet!

It's funny to think that AS+GG were hired due to their expertise with very tall structures. Wouldn't have needed them for this!

It seems that I was right when I said I wouldn't hope too much of this about the height. Still hoping for the design of all designs.

It may have affected the height if for example, it's shifting to a small footprint on the west side of the site.

But that's precisely where the expertise of an outfit like AS+GG comes in handy!

I am trying to wrap my head around the idea of dark green cladding. Until I see the render, I'll be picturing something akin to Shun Hing Square. Isn't "It's next to Central Park so let's make it green so it's contextual" a little... I don't want to say banal, but maybe a little obvious? At least for AS+GG, who made contextualism into an art form with Jin Mao.

Anyway, don't mind me. I'm just being a curmudgeon, as I'm also feeling a little let down about the height. Hopefully we'll get the official render soon.

okay, now that we received this terrible news, we need to lay out some ground rules. when the rendering comes out, DONT PHOTOSHOP IT TO ITS ORIGINAL HIGHT! i still cringe when ever i see the the white shinny spire one world trade center was supposed to have...
